You paid how much for a truck?

It's really simple, the same reason some people drive caddys and others Yugo, personal preference.

 

Why?

Because people like me can buy them cheaply when they get over their heads and want to avoid a repo.

 

Because buying used is not allways the cheapest way to run a truck.
That simple.

 

This. A 20k truck can easily turn into 100k truck considering repair costs and downtime

 

I just buy new and keep them forever...... best of both worlds .....

Although I'm still butt hurt about the cam I just replaced....

Mechanics and their supervisors to put this cam in your truck
FEDEX drivers and their management to deliver where it need
Intermodal drivers and yard workers
US custom
Ship crew
China people
Whooo you are already qualify for MEN of the YEAR.
Where is TIME ????

 

Fuel economy can be a major factor also. A new aero truck spec'd for economy can easily get 8mpg. That's a big difference in annual net compared to 5.5-6.5mpg.
I'll 2nd the other comments above about knowing the maintenance has been correct since day 1.

 

Hauling heavy short loads nothing gets 8 mpg....

 

And getting 6.5 mpg now 40 years after driving trucks that got 5 mpg tells me someone does not give a #### about fuel mileage after all these decades. I want 500 gallons of fuel and no one bother me about mileage until it's time to fill it again a couple of days later. Fuel = life.

 

Wow reading some of these post are interesting. I have always owned used trucks. Yes you can get good ones that after you put a little in it you can get down the road and make money. That being said, you are still buying a truck that some one else used and abused. Most ( not all) trucks are from large fleets. The drivers of these truck don't give a darn about the truck and abuse the hell out of them. And a second owner we have to start out And fix what stupid did. On my last truck it was a 2009 bought in 2011 had to put in 34k after 9 months and that dose not include the over haul the next year. Just bought a new truck. Was a demo for Volvo. Had a lot of extras and bells and whistles. Cost me 118k for the truck and another 11k for the warranty. Not a bad deal for me. Get a hell of lot better fuel milage then my old one. Is it nice, new, and shiny? Yup sure is. But the fuel savings I get now off sets a large portion of the payment.
