    Also, it is line 5.
And many company drivers do not have that option. I don't.

I've driven beyond my allotted drive hours several times, all I've ever gotten was a stern talking to. Just drive the truck to the closest place where you can park. Simple as that.

However, I would assume you didn't have to be on the dock while loading if so, then if it had been me, I wouldve been in the sleeper, that way if you could've used an 8 hr split sleeper, then you might've been able to convince them to allow you to stay on site for maybe another hour or two then roll out.

The other side of the coin, if you went in knowing you was slim on times, well then that your own fault

Typically you can use it only when unladened for 1 hour at a time, otherwise driving must be logged on duty. Some companies can choose not to use personal conveyance.

Yeah I was told something similar; 45 minutes each way, from and to home address.

Basically the difference as I was made to understand it is personal conveyance is for going from home to work and back, like with a day cab that you can drive home for the night, whereas off duty driving would be for like taking the truck from home to a grocery store and back.

But on the other hand, if you only end up using it once every few months, it might likely get overlooked regardless. As long as you're not abusing it to drive extra hours every week..

The company restrictions on line 5 may take into account the fuel being used.
They may not want you taking a road trip on your vacation.

Line 5 is a vague law. There is no actual length of time or distance you are restricted to or in the manner in which you use it. It all comes down to company policy as the regulation basically states a reasonable distance and that you cannot advance the load. So you can actually use it, on the road, while under a load, so long as your company allows it and you go back to where you were when you went off duty before you go on duty again.

Essentially ignoring a company's requirements and limitations, which may be stricter than what FMCSA allows, PC has no mileage or time limits. The only 2 requirements is to be unladen, which is without a commercial load, and that you can not use it to stage for dispatch.

For example, if you drive a couple hundred miles to the river or lake towing your boat, that's pc. If you drop a trailer at your terminal, you can pc, but you have to pc back to that terminal to start at the beginning of the day. You can't go straight to your pick up.
