...the US Air Force will be conducting combat tests in the western US which will involve the jamming of GPS, resulting in GPS being disrupted temporarily.

According to a report from Flying.com, “The NBAA Command Center reports the U.S. military will begin training exercises on the Nevada Test and Training Range between 0400Z until 0700Z daily. Training maneuvers will impact vast portions of the Western U.S. including California, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Montana and New Mexico. FAA enroute ATC centers affected include Albuquerque (ZAB), Denver (ZDV), Los Angeles (ZLA), Salt Lake (ZLC), Oakland (ZOA) and Seattle (ZSE).”

The idea behind the GPS jamming is meant to simulate combat situations where the USAF might encounter situations where their GPS no longer works.

Does anyone else get a vision of a bunch of mega-carriers aimlessly wandering the highways and byways like zombies?

    ;)

Buy RandMcNalley stock this week and see it soar as drivers buy the Atlas in a frenzy that will make Black Friday cry.

Seems to me like they could just simulate jamming in only the intended aircraft by loading customized firmware into the aircraft's GPS receivers, thereby sparing the general public the inconvenience of having inaccurate location data that they've come to depend on.

Let it go out. About time they learn to use the GPS between the ears. So I am such a old fogie, sue me.

There is a story about our own problem with GPS on a very foggy Delaware night where the maps were not updated to reflect a road that was chopped off and relocated half a mile further east around a new celluar installation compound built on where the old road was. We ended up following Mr DOT right into the place. School does not teach you how to get a 18 wheeler out of that 4 acre hellhole of spikes, cables and bolts etc galore.
