That's in Arizona I presume. Weather has been great out there so that was not a factor. I think that may be about where that 55 mph construction zone is with the lane shifts?
EDIT: Looking again at the pics, doesn't seem to be a construction zone.
No telling who bears most of the responsibility. The lead truck may have been passing, came over way too soon (like many today are often prone to do), then immediately braked hard for traffic or some other issue.
But 04:30? Can't rule out drowsy driving. I don't care if you run that every night the last 2 years, that road between Casa Grande and Tucson seems to bring out the worst luck in lots of truck driversLast edited: Jan 18, 2018
drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
But I also find it interesting the YRC's position in the roadway at impact. Seems like the dry van truck might have been driving slow and not completely off the roadway and so too was YRC. But I suppose impact could have driven the lead truck forward into that position before coming to a stop but I can't see YRC doing much more forward movement after impact.
... No lights on the lead truck? -
Based on the damage, there was a big speed difference, that's for sure.

Man that is tough. I am grateful for a sleeper as it gives some room. Yet that day cab had no room at all.

Whole cab got knocked rearward a few feet! But I'm trying to figure out where the engine went,,,
Dropped down between the rails? -

I don't mind the lack of airbags, I'm old enough to remember how to drive without them. (Rule #1 don't hit nuthin!)
But I've had 3 seatbelts come off at the pillar on me. (All Freightliners!) so,,,,
That's a little disturbing.
