The only thing I can really think of is maybe one of the sliding clutches isn't engaging properly from being worn. Or possibly the electronic shifter messing up
-
ouh no, it is worn range synchro, tranny about million miles and range unit would be rebuilt
-
Thanks, Can that be done without disassembling entire trans. Truck has 700,000 . Transmission is a 12spd zf freedomline autoshift

on cabovers it is possible to remove range planetary gear from tranny but conventional design truck is other thing. with tranny on truck it is easy to damage wiring of TCU, speed sensors... so I'd drop tranny.
-
Thanks , I will have tranny out to replace clutch. Can syncro be repaired by removing back cover or does it need to go to rebuild shop?
-
Not so easy. U have to remove TCU with shift cylinders. Really it is ZF astronic tranny, but with 12 to 24V converter and ZM Tec modul. To remove TCU is easy, but when u install it = be sure shift pistons fit rails, else it may crack when u tigten bolts

BTW, all the manuals are available on ZF portal
