Oh please.. read the OP's post.. things are just rosy and fine in trucker land.. if everyone would leave Cletus and Bubba to their own vices.. they can tell when they are tired and no one can tell them when to shut down, they will always stop when they are tired.. HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have any idea what we used to do to deliver These loads. This team thing has exploded in the past 10/15 Years because of the DOT rules. Before then we ran those same loads solo. Their was no need for a team truck,we done those By ourselves. I'm here to tell you, that #### ain't easy. 1000 mile days, back to back to back. I'll never want to do that #### again. That's just the way it was before they tightened Everything up. The rules are saving you from having to do this To get a paycheck. Trucking terms that when I started, no longer apply To our industry because of ELD. Hard runner: you don't even hear this used anymore. that meant you could drive 18, 24, 30, Hours straight, or whatever it took to get the job done. I called them death runs. You think everybody was doing those loads By drinking coffee. You can believe that if you want. I remember the the drug dealers and lot lizards Roaming freely through the truck stops. In plain view, not even hiding from anyone. Anything you wanted, speed, crank, coke , weed, Whatever. Now you rarely if ever see any of that stuff. When there's no rules or nobody enforces the rules, You get anarchy. That's the way it used to be. Is that what you want it to be like. You have no idea how easy we have it now. And yes, even mega's we're outlaws then. There was no such thing as your out of hours, Or you need a 10 hour break, or your tired. If you had to go 17 hours straight to make the delivery That's what you did. On a good night you were lucky to get 4 to 5 hours rest. the new drivers now make more money, Doing less work then we ever did. They can thank the DOT rules for that. You start at .42 cpm now. Run 3000 miles a week, that's 1260 bucks gross. We done 5000 miles a week at .23 cpm. That's 1150 gross. You want to go back to that ####. I don't. Every time the DOT tightens the rules we (drivers) benifit. We work less and the companies have to push the Pay up a few pennies to keep us. That's why new drivers start out now at twice what We used too. If there were no DOT rules, you'd be driving 5000 Miles a week solo for .25 cpm. With no benifits. The only reason you get a good nights rest everyday Is because of the ELD mandate. There saving you from the companies running you Into the dirt like they used to do to us. Don't believe those glory days stories you here From the old timers. I make twice as much now as I did running outlaw, For doing half as much work. And you want me to go on strike, to go back to The outlaw days. Lol. That ain't happening. When I get pulled into a scale house. The first thing I do is thank them for finally hammering The companies and making my job so much easier. They knew what was going on all along, and writing Drivers tickets for outlaw trucking wasn't going to Change anything. The companies would just fire the driver and Find another one. Now that the companies take the punishment Along with the drivers, everything has changed. Now we work less and make more. We get more time off, We drive much better equipment and we don't Have to kill ourselves to make a living. That ELD you hate so much allows you to say I can't make those appointments. Without any reprucussions. You think about all that when dream about It going back to the old outlaw days.
I like telling them I can't make the delivery because I'm out of hours ! They have to reschedule the load. Sometimes the ELD works against the driver but most time it helps. Now we can see how bad dispatch is by how many time they get the wrong delivery times.
I’m sorry, but I have to partly disagree. Do there need to be rules? Of course. Here’s my scenario.....I’m a Canadian owner op and I’m on elogs cuz of the us mandate. It’s coming here as well soon. But I’m Canada, you’re only allowed 75km a day personal conveyance. If I’m at home on my reset, I can’t even get my truck to a shop for repairs, cuz guess what? It’s more than 75kms away!! To me, that’s horse poop.
"....Every time the DOT tightens the rules we (drivers) benifit. We work less and the companies have to push the Pay up a few pennies to keep us. That's why new drivers start out now at twice what We used too...." Don't be a fool. Higher wages cause inflation. The prices of goods rises and you are no better off than you were before. Sorry you didnt have the stones to tell dispatch you were out of hours before eld. Why didnt you speak up then or quit? Riding around with another driver? Ooooh that sounds too good. What's the catch?
With that line of thinking, I don’t see how any owner op would ever get a reset in, cuz here’s REALITY. There’s not a single time I’m at home on a reset that I don’t do something on the truck. Whether it be a grease job, washing it, or my paperwork for the tax man. By definition of the law, that should all be on duty as well. There’s the law, and then there’s REALITY.
I run on my friend’s authority and he was audited back in 2013. I used to a lot of my own wrenching. I had everything in my maintenance file like they wanted. But they didn’t like that I logged no on duty time for doing it. Suddenly I became the fastest wrench in the land and did a lot of repair work late on a Friday or Saturday night when I got to town. Lol
When my auditor explained that all related trucking business had to be logged I asked "What if I pick up a few straps while I'm at the hardware store buying lawn mower parts?" He said it has to be logged. OMG
