    Number one mistake. Giving the broker the drivers number. It's not the drivers job to talk wih a broker. If they want a check in, go through the office.

    Unavoidable in practice. Too many of them need it for tracking and ensuring that the load is not double brokered. All of the mega brokers want the driver's number these days..

    On a small one man operation or even a few trucks I agree. If they are large enough (even if they only have 5 trucks) to have a dispatch office, it needs to go through the office.

    As a driver, I would give the company one warning if they ever gave my number out, The second time I would quit. If the client wants to know where I'm at, they can call dispatch and dispatch can either track the truck or call me.

    They would not give a load unless they can call the driver and he will answer the calls. Simply either you want a load with a condition like this or not. When they market is tight and they pay good, few have luxury to refuse.

    One thing for sure, after reading all these things about them here and FB, every single load from them felt like holding a grenade with a pulled pin.
    I mean, getting such bad press must have come not from nothing....

    Then they can put a tracker on the truck. Or buy a phone for the truck and give out that number.
