Howdy everyone! So I have seem to have ventured myself down a path of hauling 20" pipe. It's crazy where our trucks take us some times lol I have not played with over hang ever before in my driving as I've mostly hauled a belly dump. I havnt been able to find a good breakdown of what is allowed and what is required when it comes to over hang. I have a 48' flat that they are wanting me to stick 60 foot of pipe on. Unfortunately the way my truck is setup, I have a short wheel base so I literally cannot put more then six inches front overhang so that leaves me with 11' 6" at best for my rear overhang. Having almost 12 feet of over hang I feel would require a permit in most states?
A lot of states let you over hang no more than 15ft over the back or 1/3ed of it hanging off the back, but it must be 1 pipe not 2 pipes butted to make 60ft. all states are diff. Like FL. if you have 2 flashing lights on top of truck you may run at night, no permit needed, but all are diff. but you need to buy a big flashing light and 18ft. of wire that you can run off tag light wire, and screw it on a cut board so you can clamp it on back of pipe with a flag hung on a long rubber strap with ends bent in so you dont let it get away, buy extra sign and flags, I have given a worn out sign to a driver at chicken house that was on C/B asking for a sign so they could leave.
Anything over 4 ft will require flags. Lights if running night. States have different lighting requirements. Wy. wants back and side of overhang. Permits vary by state. Co. Requires after 10 feet. Az. Requires after 6 feet. Etc. That link posted above is a good reference. Find your states and remember those. Or print and make your own book.
Thank y'all. That link that was posted I remember seeing at some point but wasn't sure on how accurate. I'm definitely going vto print it off it's my luck I wouldn't have service when needed
That site is extremely inaccurate. Go straight to each states website that ends in .gov. That’s the only way to get accurate information.
