Right. I said i wasn't saying that or implying that you would do that. I can definitely understand we all get in a pinch an do what we have to. Heck fire man if I'm desperate enough to get cleaned up I'll close the cab curtain an use a bunch of baby wipes to hold me over till i make the time to stop an shower.

I keep my hair long. Not that i don't like it long but I've had the buzz cut before and its a whole lot easier to take care of. If it were up to me i think i would just get it buzzed again and shave my mustache an goat off too. But my wife wouldn't be very happy about that at all. I'd be in the dog house big time.

I keep my hair long because cutting it would be like pruning a dead tree!

I go to the Post Barbershop on Ft Eustis and get all my hair cut off. I do this about two times a month. $12 a cut is not bad. Then walk over to the food court and have a sandwich afterward. I always look forward to going. Was tough getting in when Joint Base Langley Ft Eustis went into Health Condition Charlie, but since Sept I can get in with my VA ID card!

I shower EVERY. DAY. It's possible, do it. At platinum level at Love's you get unlimited showers and drink refills. At Pilot you get shower power one shower a day or a team shower daily.

You get one free shower for 50 gallon fill at either.

"First of all, understand that you WON'T be showering every day."

That was a quote from one of the instructors at Stevens when I first started out. I was one of these guys that needed a shower every day so I thought to myself, "No way."

But he was RIGHT! Sometimes you just can't, for whatever reason. I have gone as long as 4 days without a shower. Never thought that would happen. Two days without a shower is now common for me. And it's really not that big a deal. Sometimes I even try to test myself to see how long I can go without one! (Yeah, yeah, I know...I need to find a hobby on the road!)

Try to fuel at the same truck-stop chain until you get unlimited showers. At Love's you need 1500 gallons a month. At Pilot I think it is still 1000 gallons (though I'm not that certain).

Don't be afraid to ask someone for a shower. You'd be surprised how many empathize with you and will oblige. I remember one poor Haitian soul that came into the truck-stop and asked the lady at the counter how much it cost to shower. When she told him, the kid just lowered his head and walked away in dismay. He was really dirty too, probably a flat-bedder or oil field worker.

So I followed him out and said to him, "I remember when I was in your shoes. Come with me."

I took him to the kiosk and pulled a shower for him. The joy on his face really made my day. He couldn't thank me enough.

Another time when I was starting out in flat-bedding, I walked into a Flying J. I looked like a big ball of dirt and mud. I only had 1/2 a shower credit (never saw the logic in that). The lady at the counter took pity upon my poor soul and comped me a shower. I'm one of these guys that out of sheer principal, I REFUSE to pay $14 for a shower. It has to be a very bad situation for me to do that.

By the way, when you do get unlimited showers, help someone in need if you get the opportunity.

Yep, almost impossible to get a shower every day. But cleaning up in the truck with water, soap, and paper towel is easy, fast and gets the job done when in between showers. It also helps if you shave your head bald like I do - no hair to get greasy that way. :)

Also a good soap for the truck is Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, available at Walmart. Natural and does not leave a film, so it's easier to use with minimal water in the truck.

My 30 is usually reserved for a quick lunch. Showers usually come into play during your 10-hour break. But sometimes you don't take your 10 at a truck-stop either.
