I was talking with a Schneider driver at the next dock who mentioned they get help with finding places to stop for the night. He said it was really helpful when he was in unfamiliar places or running low on time.

Besides their terminals I've heard that they have a lot of drop lots all over that they can park in too. What kind of help did he say they get? Some type of search function on their tablets?

A remodeled Heartland terminal in Carlisle, PA is going to start a joint training school there where the graduates were going to either work for Heartland or Millis once finished. Nothing said about how the new drivers would be divided up.

Also the Burleson, TX was being totally rebuilt and Heartland was closing their Dallas area terminal when the new one is finished and everything was being moved to the new one. Same thing with the school there as in Carlisle.

Not sure if anything else has or is changing. Have been out of the loop for a couple months now. Both of the things I mentioned were in the works before I left.

There was a list of potential places to park or stay at that came up on the route on the Qualcom. He said it was new, and that it was really helpful.

Have you looked into Roehl? I seem to remember reading something about them having a program for part-time drivers. I haven't heard much bad about them besides being somewhat micromanaging so they might be worth looking into if you want to drive but want to take off during the winter.

Funny you suggest that because I did look into them. I have never heard much bad about them either. Usually what sounds like new drivers that Roehl has put thru school to get their CDL and are complaining they aren't making top dollar immediately. Or that Roehl requires a commitment for the training and when they fail to honor that commitment Roehl has the audacity to ask for the money that they agreed to pay upfront if they failed to follow thru with the commitment. I have heard a little about micromanagement too, mostly about following the exact route suggestion.

Currently they have Northeast Regional (home for a 34 every week) and OTR 10-14 days out with 3 days off. I'd consider the regional job if it was a full 2 days off each week like home Friday out Monday. But it is home Friday out Sunday or home Saturday out Monday. I wished I lived where they have some of those part time schedules. You have to live near a terminal for that.

No I had the first door you come to when pulling into the garage. I would still be there if I had the door you mentioned.

I was thinking about what John said about bad drivers annoying him and thought that would be the one thing I'd like to see changed first. This job would be so much better without cars and trucks cutting in way too close, especially the ones that brake after doing so. The problem seems to be getting worse too, I wonder why?
