So what is a good thickness and length for bungee rope ? The rope seems like a better alternative to bungee straps
3/8" is what I have, most tarp places sell on 150 ft roll. Cut to length desired, use hog rings to cap ends when cutting too length.
3/8” is all I’ve used. I just use a lighter to melt the ends if I think about it, I can’t say I’ve had many problems with it unraveling. I use loose hooks to attach the rope to the trailer.
Man, I almost bought a roll last time I was in but held out lol. Every time I see your stuff I want to get some. When I do I’ll post a few pics for some critique.
Wear safety glasses when you’re installing the straps on the tarp I know a guy that lost an eye when a strap came loose and the other end flew back and the metal S-hook hit him right in the eye.
Can you post a picture of the hog rings you're speaking of? How do you store these when not in use? Seems like it would be a tangled mess...
If anyone can’t find a local source for bungee rope I suggest Harry J. Epstine, my local tool store. They have 3/8”x300’ spools for $75. That’s a #### good price, even when you factor in shipping. They also have all kinds of high quality American made tools (their speciality). Reel Options Bungee Cord 3/8" x 300' (SPHD-9) They even sell hog rings and hog ring pliers.
The ones i use for the ends of my tarps . i just roll it up like a big electric cord. Wrap it around my shoulder and elbow and put a velcro strap around it to keep from unraviling.
I should have clarified, I use bungie rope. There is also shock cord, bungie rope unravels more than shock cord. I ain't figured out the post a picture stuff, but my trailers have welded on hooks, u tighten the entire length as u go. Or put half hitches and go back and forth around weird shapes.
