Join the fb page skilled truckers canada. The carnage is unreal. Bc enforcement now follows that page and has been shutting down companies because of the dangerous driving being reported.
They need to step up their game. Nothing but dumb####s on the highways in BC. Most of them shouldn't be allowed to ride a moped.
I agree. I ran up to Thunder Bay almost every week back in the 70's and 80's and it was rare to see any carnage on 17. You would see Kwikasair off in the woods every once in a while though but nothing like the carnage they have up there now.
1 between Golden and feild was closed for oct/nov for construction. All 1s traffic was diverted to 93 /95 via radium. The constant smell of burnt brakes hung over the town, and watching the white volvo/cascadias deal with the traffic circle was comical. One broke down. He decked his trailer on the side road in front of the hotel I was staying while they switched tractors. Radium was not set up for the onslaught. There was wrecks almost daily on 93. Drove past multiple crash sites.
I’ll take 17 over 11 all year long. 23 years of running Thunder Bay, and I cringe when 11 is closed. Hwy 11 is the Canadastan freeway.
All I can tell you is that after running the US side for good few month, they tossed me on some cross Canada winter adventure. It was nothing short of disaster. Pot holes, no signs, no lights, wild animals, poor narrow roads, single lane traffic, no place to piss, hardy any rest areas, and god #### ice n' snow everywhere and it stick around too. Felt like time warp back 50 years. It all felt surreal for a country so rich to not be doing nothing on infrastructure. Anyway, that was it and I went running south again.
That's one hell of a pull coming out of radium up towards Banff. Defo not for rookies. But i think you said it best, that stretch in between radium and Banff was not meant for that kind of traffic esp for semi truck traffic
Yep, years ago , i used to run from Ontario to Vancouver BC via US, I-94/90 especially in the winter, but around 2004-2005 the US stopped allowing Canadian trucks for this kind of transit; Actually i'm not sure if is possible today?!, but was a better winter option, i switched to southern routes.
