    Schneider veteran driver here.

To the original poster: As has been suggested elsewhere--I can personally vouch for the suggestion that your time on the road with a Schneider trainer will be short.

    Amazingly short.

I was out with my trainer for a whopping 4 1/2 days.

After that, ol' Big Orange assigned me a truck, and then...it was....sink or swim time.

Somehow....they seem to make this sort of practice work.

Now...I'm doing hazmat tanker duty, hauling fuel (but not with Schneider). I'm home daily.

Despite the fact that a lot of Forum participants like to really bad mouth the so-called, "mega-carriers"....starting off with a really big carrier does offer the beginning driver some very attractive advantages, over smaller carriers.

You should indeed consider some of these advantages, before making your final choice for a starting carrier.

I won't bore others with them here.

Keep in mind also that....after you complete training, you may well encounter experiences with shippers and/or receivers where you are treated on something less than a totally professional & respectful level.

This happens all the time to us male drivers.

    Been there, seen that.

You can, and should, expect similar....at some point.

A can of mace won't help then, either.

Yes I saw that and how sad..especially when the trainer repeatedly requested the student be removed from the truck and Werner refused to do so. I just left Covenant last year after working for them a second time (the last time for only eight months) Nearly all of the students I was assigned had criminal backgrounds many relating to violence of some type (battery, assult, domestic violence etc etc) when I spoke to training dept I was told they don't hire people with violent criminal backgrounds but that a few slip thru the cracks, which is a big line of b.s.. I'm not looking to end up dead so a trucking company can make millions hiring cheap labor (ie convicted criminals) Its a sad day when people whose job it is to ensure safety of others only cares about climbing the corporate ladder (so called management positions) and every word out of their mouths is a lie. Welcome to the world of greed and no moral values in the trucking industry. For the record, it isn't just male trainees with a felony or criminal background, several female students admitted to having some behavioral/criminal past as well. I believe in second chances, and those who have served their time deserve a chance to earn a living..but not at a risk to my life or safety. Many trucking companies don't care about the drivers, only about lining their pockets at your expense..like politicians. What a sad world this has become and what a sad state the trucking industry has turned into as well.

Case is still going through the courts, but this is an expert from one of the motions to get the girls text messages.
    EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUN | Case No. 6:18-03177... | 20191009i14| Leagle.com

"Defendant now argues, in its follow-up status report submitted to chambers, that the rest of the text messages and call logs should be produced because the one-week sample shows that (1) Huerta shared a sexually explicit story with Weekley and thus invited his conduct; (2) Huerta is not credible in claiming Weekley monitored her messages, or that it substantially affected her, because she still sent sexually explicit messages to another man and told a story in those messages about previously publicizing parts of her sex life; and (3) Weekley's conduct did not substantially affect her because she continued to send sexually explicit and mundane but private text messages. The response Huerta submitted to chambers again objects on relevance and privacy grounds.

The Court agrees with Defendant that the remaining text messages and call logs sent while Huerta was on the truck are relevant and proportional to the needs of the case for purposes of discovery.1 Excerpts from the sample production in this case suggest that Huerta's call logs and text messages may contain evidence that is relevant to the extent of her injury or whether Weekley's conduct was unwelcome"

So the female was sharing and doing the same thing she's accusing the male of, but of course it's her that's being harassed and not someone just looking for a payday.

There is also verbage in another motion that claims the previous allegation was just that, an allegation with no proof.

Again, what is a trucking company to do? Punish the guy for an allegation with no proof? That leads to a whole new set of lawsuits.

If I was a Trainer and requested that a student be removed from the truck , and it didn’t happen on the next 24 hours ,
I’d be en route to the nearest company terminal or greyhound bus stop . Either to dump the student , or get on the bus myself , I’d let the management decide whose getting on the bus . The student , or me .

I have given this topic a lot of thought over the years. 10 years ago if I were still driving I would have been OK with training a female. To start with I had rather not train period! The truck is small to start with and having two residents in that small a space is tough! The last issue "at least for me" is the possible political angle. If were to train a female and carelessly but with no malicious intent say something or do something that offends that female in today's political climate I am opening myself up to problems I don't need in my life. So for that reason, I would NOT train a female and if directed to I would ask my carrier where do they want me to park my truck after I got my stuff out of it! Sorry about injecting politics into this subject, but in this case, a male driver is opening themselves up to possible serious liability!

with this day and age a “dude” or whatever they want to be called can claim the same harassment. Just saying times have changed.

@Chinatown not sure if she ever answered your question or ever will. Some people will not even admit the continent they live on. Something to do with the inter webs and creepy old men. But in this case it was for her benefit because of your expertise in trucking companies and getting people hired with the right one.

When I went to trucking school about five years ago, there was one female student in our class. The head instructor pulled all of us guys aside one day out on the practice yard and warned us all, to keep any interaction with her extremely vanilla. He said in the past when they had to fail a female student they almost always lawyered up and claimed it was sexual discrimination and or that they were sexually harassed during the class. Now this gal was terrible, she was one of only two students during back in drill ps that managed to smash into the two trailers. Both of them. Lol yet the school still passed her.
There’s some great women drivers out there there, and many that would not play games like that, but in today’s climate it’s readily available in right there for them to play the sex-est card anytime they want. Best to let the female trainers train the other female drivers in my opinion…

I know many gals that can drive the heck out of a truck! Do so on a daily basis and work hard! Please don't mistake my comment as being misogynistic because I am NOT like that! I also am glad there are men that will train the girls! Listen, if it was just .01% that do this that means one female out of a thousand! Sounds like good odds until you get that .01% in the same truck as you! Agreed! Best let the girls train the girls!
