i decided to book a rental car out there and bobtail back home.. do i need to get those state trip permits and fuel permit to bobtail home?
Easy on the throttle, friend. And start off in a lower gear than you did in Blue until you learn it. 600HP will easily grenade a drivetrain. In the big hole, she should stroll effortlessly down the road. Driving will be worlds more enjoyable. Getting paid to play will definitely make you smile. Luck in battle.
Just need your bill of sale and insurance from my experience. I just bobtailed a truck from Salt Lake up to Montana on Fri. without #'s or a plate and cruised through Utah and Idaho scales without even being asked to show paperwork. In the past Idaho told me that if I had a bill of sale that there's no ifta required and no permit required to drive the purchased truck home. The key is bobtailing and not hauling a load.
thanks for the info . i think i will just play it safe. i have i think 9 states to go thru and 2k miles. with my luck i will get stopped somewhere and get shutdown ahaha
Call a few of the states and ask if they require a permit to bobtail a recent purchase home. California is the only state I've found that requires a trip permit but it is emissions related due to carb and has nothing to do with registration or recent purchase.
When I move a truck I bought, I wrote on a piece of white tape “NOT FOR HIRE”, , didn’t have any trouble. @staceydude did the same when he bought my 379 and drove it Bobtail from Commiefornia to Texas.
I drove this home with a "sold" paper in the windshield and no DOT#, license plate or IFTA with zero issues and wasn't even asked to stop and show paperwork. The hard part was reaching out for a non existent shifter!
