Dude, this article (2 years old) does not for a moment address the cost of charging an EV. It speaks only to the convenience of charging one.

 

It's responding to the same study your article is based off of. Business insider has republished this half a dozen times or more.

Not to change the subject entirely, but I heard today that Consumer Reports says electric cars are incredibly hard on tires, at least partially because they’re so much heavier. They get roughly half as much service out of a set of tires.

 

That is one poorly headlined "news story".

They are looking at the purchase price of the vehicle and the potential distance it can go when full of either fuel or electricity........

An arbitrary measurement with minimal value other than to generate a sensationalized headline.

My utility charges me 6.8 cents per KWH.

My EV charger keeps track of how many KWH it pumps into the car.
I have Burned 2150 KWH to go 6800 mile since I got it In Dec 2022 That gives me a real world 3.1 miles per KWH.

Cost per mile to operate from Home charge: 2.2 cents per mile

My Prius V (station wagon version) gets about 40mpg with a local fuel price of about $5 per gallon (highest in the nation) It costs me 12.5 cents per mile to run.

 

well, there ya go. Real life numbers

 

Not to mention not having to pay excise taxes on the gasoline.

 

i'm waiting for the long lines, cutting in line, and riots at the charging stations...and power outages, and the area asking to cut back on electrical use due to massive blackouts, or brown outs....

all the while, i blow by all of that in my gas powered vehicle.
