    Hey, Folks!

I got my CDL class A maybe 10 years ago at the behest of a family member and didn't use it because I chose to get an undergraduate and master's degree. Anyway, I've been really upset with my job opportunities after graduation, and have been looking at truck driving positions because I'm confident driving and good at it. However, I don't have any practical experience with a company and most companies I talked to are lowballing the hell out of me with the highest I found being Schneider at 42,000 a year. Which I still strongly feel is below the national average and quite frankly, inappropriate economically.

If anyone knows anyone paying fair salaries for the demand this skill is in, please drop the link, and what information you know.

Trucking hardly ever pays drivers salaries. You get paid per mile & often lose about 10% of those miles to various adjustments.

The industry is dead slow right now until the economy starts growing and the flood of C0vid related invaders go kaput.

There is no driver shortage. $40-60k is probably reasonable IF YOU CAN GET HIRED & EMPLOYER HAS ENOUGH FREIGHT. Ignore the 2-10 year old media stories about driver shortages AND AUTOMATED TRUCK fairy tales.

You need to decide if you are willing to pay for a refresher course, what type of trucking you can/will do, what city you will be based, what freight (van, reefer, flatbed, tanker) you can pull with your endorsements, and how often you/your wife needs you to be home for 34 hours. Otherwise. It's like asking should you become Tom Cruise or Tom Brady to make the most money.

Keep in mind, when someone speaks about salaries they are usually referring to their yearly gross or adjusted after taxes.

Back on topic, I’m from NW Florida, and despite not being with a company I have used it for various jobs/favors related to construction and friends. I am 100% incentivized by earnings, and everyone I have spoken to says they are still in need of reliable competent drivers.

So, companies offering drivers on the upper end of 40k-60k where are you at? Who knows of any? I'm young, fit, confident, arrogant to some, and ready for a rodeo.

Find something specialized, the company’s make more money and pass that down to the drivers. Some of it anyway. No company needs to pay top dollar to drag a dry van. Any foreigner who can’t speak English can bump a dock.

Schneider is the lowest paying company out there as far as the total at the end of the year.

Where is your location; state & nearest city/town? We need this information to know the hiring area you're in for various companies.

May Trucking Company has a terminal in Pensacola.
Not the best paying, but an excellent company to get started with. Annual pay will be much more than with Schneider.
I don't know what May will say about you having no experience since acquiring your cdl.
May Trucking Company – Performance. Reliability. Leadership.
May Trucking Company is committed to improving the lives of our drivers and their families by providing top-notch equipment, great benefits, superior pay, and efficient operations. …
