Just to clarify. Elogs are good to use for IFTA audits so long as it follows the rules in place. You can easily Google the rules. I use Motive and it passes.

Wow a 5 year contract is a long time to be locked in..

I have been exploring building out a mobile app that handles mileage, fuel tracking and IFTA report generation. I’ve seen quite a few drivers asking for something like this online, so I’m digging into it more seriously.

Would you be open to sharing more about what you’re hoping a tool like this would do? Or even what you didn't like about Motive.

Yes so i actually do like how motive does it. Idk if your familiar with their system or not. My biggest complaint with them is the cost($600/year) and the contract. I haven't explored all there options and maybe they have something cheaper now but when I started that was The cheapest I could get and I don't think I could do any less of a contract. I also dont put on a lot of miles so there's plenty others that would have better input. But for myself I would like something simple that just does exactly what you suggested. It would have to be able to keep track of miles in each state and show you that info along with your fuel purchases in a report. I haul locally and only go out of state in the spring and sometimes winter hauling grain and fertilizer and then maybe a little in the fall. When I do go out of state I go just across the border and back so its really nice to not be trying to write down the miles every time I go across. It's always in traffic and I have a hard time remembering

Are you exempt thru the short haul exemption? If so, how many times do you cross state lines?
We run under the short haul exception, and most of our moves are within the state. We only fill out trip logs when we cross state lines. I’ve been audited and was told what we were doing was fine.
