I'm currently attending a private trucking school in Virginia that isn't PTDI certified. I've heard of companies that hire students will only take students from a certified school, but I don't know if that's really the majority. Will this be a problem for me when I graduate?

no it won't VERY FEW companies REQUIRE a training school to be certified (they pay PTDI thousands to get that "privelige")

Mr. Wulf, P.P. is right. the majority of companies don't require PTDI certification. But my guess is you don't want to apply to the majority of companies either. A good way to approach this might have beeen to research the companies first, then if you found some companies that met your needs, and didn't require it, you're fine. But if you didn't, then I suppose you could have re-thought it, but that ship has sailed. Moving forward, you should have no problem. Good luck, and keep us posted!

THAT is sound advice. pick your Co, don't let the school pick it for you. it is to their benefit more than yours.

My school here in north central Ark. is thru a community college and its not certified. I had heard that it had a pretty good reputation.
In my third week of school I applied to 6 companies. By the fourth week I had a favorable response from 4 and will be starting with one of them later this month.
Now, with all that said------I do wish I could have gone with a pdti accredited school--I think the training is better.
I have checked ut a new school just south of Springfield, Mo. that is accredited and has much better facilities.
But, sometimes you "gotta do what you gotta do".

I got offers from Schneider, JB Hunt, Swift, and PAM, and I went with Roehl, but none of those required your school to be PTDI. I think that PTDI has somewhat lost its muster and most companies don't view it as necessary. At least that is what I found. Hope this helps!
