Yes, all things considered, I had a good experience with Swift. I didn't go to Swift's driving school, so I can't comment on that. Swift is a good company to go to just to learn the trade. Go with a good attitude and an open mind and learn all you can. Getting a good mentor (trainer) for your first 6 weeks out is key as well as your driver manager when you get your truck. I stayed with them for 2 1/2 years, just to get the experience. Like most other companies, you have the good and the bad, but please just don't let anything you read on these message boards give you a bad attitude. I drove out of the Inver Grove Heights MN terminal and generally, they kept their promises to me, I usually got decent miles and home time when I wanted.
You accrue a day off for every 6 that you are out, but sometimes I would stay out for longer just to get more days in a row at home. I did like that flexability.

I wish you the best of luck and if you have any specific questions I can answer, let me know.

I am planning to go to Swift school in Troutdale Oregon so if anybody can tell me how that school is I would appreciate. But your right Swift get your foot in the door of the trucking business.

I guess you can blame Swift for the bad drivers they put out on the road, but not all of them are bad drivers there of course a hand full that are bad drivers. But you can say the same thing to properly every carrier out there on the road. There drivers that can handle those trucks and there some can't. I do blame all schools not only Swift to make sure the bad ones don't get out on the road. Maybe the instructor fill sorry for the recuit that has paid some much money to get his CDL and if we don't pass them they would owe all that money back. I don't know the answer maybe a clause in the contract that if i should fail I don't i will only owe so much. Remember there bad driver out there that don't drive the big rigs who should we blame about there driving.

I went to Swift orientation with the expectation of getting my truck when I was finished. I said goodbye to the wife and kid, and at the end of three days they told us all to go home and wait. Not a single orientee got a truck or a trainer that day. We were told to go home, call our recruiter, wait for our employee number, then call the terminal with our employee number, then wait for our truck assignment. sound screwy to anyone but me?

    I went home--called my recruiter--waited--waited--waited some more--called again--waited a couple more days--called again..............

After two weeks I found another job, went to orientaion at my new job, got assigned a truck, have delivered several loads, and have earned some hometime.

I got home tonight to find a zero dollar paycheck stub in the mail from Swift. Evidentally Swift did hire me, assign me an employee number, and wanted to pay me, but forgot to tell me I was hired. They never gave me my employee number so I never got to call the terminal to get a truck assignment.

It's just as well, I really didn't want to work for them anyway I was just looking to get a few paychecks while I found a good job.

On a sad note-- A couple of days ago I was near Tuscaloosa Alabama, and got caught in a traffic jam because a Swift driver hit the wall, rolled the truck, caught fire, and died. I always hate seeing these fatality accidents. No matter who they are or who they work for.

I'm amazed at how many fatality accidents I come acrossed, and am always saddened.
