I was going around Columbus OH on I-270. #### thing locked up somewhere on the loop missed my exit in rush hour in the rain.
Was going to Rite Aid DC in Aberdeen MD. Kept trying to route me down a 3/4T limit street. Also couldn't find the address. Guard told me nobody's GPS can find the place.
Driving on US24 from Indiana to Napoleon OH it showed me driving through a field for many miles. The road is 4 lane road at the state border going East. It tried to route me North about several miles from where I sitting at the Campbell's soup plant. I asked if there was another in town. None. I looked Campbell up in either points of interest, or by the name. Probably name. I followed the crappy company instructions and they got me close to there. Then watched where the trucks were coming from.
Many problems I have had are common among different brands of GPS's.
It locked up on me a few days ago......again. Just forgot where.
So Brian, what is up when it constantly tells you go this way and that on certain roads?

I experienced "driving through a field for many miles" most recently on a newly 4 laned state route in Ohio (can't remember exactly where). The new 4 lane followed a route different from the old 2 lane route, which the 7700 apparently didn't know about, so it showed me driving across empty terrain. To its credit, it at least kept track of where I was and didn't lock up in confusion. The solution here is a map database update.
On not finding addresses, I'm finding similar issues with all the new distribution centers that are springing up. Either the new road or the address on the new road is not in the database. On many of these I go to Google maps and even the satellite image will show an empty field at the address I'm given, so Google can't even keep up with the new construction. A map database update is the answer here, too.
On freezing, I've found that the 7700 freezes in at least two identifiable situations:
1) when it repeatedly tries to recalculate a route to return to the path it thinks you should be taking. As you noted, many times you simply cannot (or should not) go the route the 7700 wants you to go. So, the 7700 works to recalculate a new path when you vary from its plan. I've found that it may freeze after repeatedly calculating new routes in large cities.
2) when you ask it for too many points of interest along your route. If you have a long route programmed and then, as an example, ask it for all the truck stops along the route, it will reliably freeze if there's a lot of them.
Both of the freezing issues are software issues that are a result of rookie programming and poor software quality control.
In my personal opinion, I wouldn't mind paying a small sum for a map database update because I generally buy a new paper map each year to get updated information. However, Cobra should quickly issue software patches to correct these long identified freezing problems, at no charge, that are giving it such a black eye in these forums. After all, a device that simply works when it's supposed to is what we all paid our money for. -
There is no excuse IMO to not find place that have been there for 10 years or more.
I have been told the trucker's atlas is only updated every 2 years. The new one is on the even years. -
I am glad to read its not only my 7700 thats doing these same problems that you guys described. i also have a issue with using the trk stop/travel center feature on the gps.whenever i use it lots of times it wont list a lot of the trk stops that i drive by. wtf? this is not what i paid 350.00 for! for that price it should be constantly updated. just my .02

If the nav unit shows you driving down a field, it indicates that the road is not in the mapping database. The can only be fixed with a new map database.
Regarding "constantly tells you go this way and that on certain roads", we would need the starting location and the destination address and a description of the problem. We can then investigate.
If your unit keeps locking up, I think it would be a good idea to send it to us so that we can check it out. You can send it to my attention.

This way and that is from the Pilot in Amarillo to Henrietta TX. No particular address in Henrietta, just whatever Bebe picked. I had to run 287 to Sanger TX from Amarillo. GPS wanted to run me I-40 to I-35. Company fuel route was 287 from I-40.
BTW there is a lot of changes in the truck stop world. Many Pilots are becoming Love's. That data base is needing updates.
So to keep me from plowing a field I need to update my data base or Cobra does? I haven't done the most recent update you listed.
I am thinking whoever is selling you your info is lazy and hasn't updated their info properly. Many of these problems are not Cobra only after conferring with other drivers about their GPS.
I don't want to send Bebe in to get looked at as I don't have a replacement. This is like asking a carpenter to send his hammer in for repairs.
Is there a way to book mark or save a location you are at? Like a location that doesn't exist in the data base? For instance a shipper or receiver that Bebe can't find yet I am sitting there. -

Regarding the location of the Loves, they have two locations in Durant. One at 1223 North 1st, and one at 524 West Main. Both locations are in the 7700. I compared our map locations to Google maps, and we match up fine. I also compared to Mapquest. I could not find a problem.
