So I want to get into Con-Way freight. I don't want to run over the road. Can I get into this without having to run over the road for Con-Way first ?
You sure can atleast try. Ive been here for 2 months and I love everything, except being on the flex board and having to call @ 6am to see if I have a run that day. I see you're up in Michigan and i knw we have at least one big terminal there, so apply online and then follow up with the terminal manager or the personnel supervisor. But we need more background info, do you have your CDL with endorsements, especially haz mat? More details and the CWF heads might be able to help you out more
Exactly what century class said. Get the number to the terminal and call and ask to speak to the personal supervisor. I had my endorsements and CDL but no exp. Look for truck driver apprentice if u have no exp. If u don't have any they will help u get it but u will be locked on for a year so if u quit u gotta pay back 2000 to them where if u have everything they won't lock u on. I have a few threads of my progress so take a look if u want
well I've got 22 months driving exp. , hazmat, doubles/triples. I was under the impression you had to go into CFI first then bid for the local driving jobs
That is not true in all cases, and is probably region dependent. I got hired with a CDL, endorsements and no experience. I had a super clean license and I went to an accredited truck driving school. I found my terminal managers info, shot him an email and told how super interested I was in working for Freight and I got a call the next day. That OTR crap is for suckers(no offense). But depending on what terminal you go to and the amount of freight they move and drivers, you might work one or two days a week. All just depends on the terminal. As the new guy, if you do get hired, just work hard and do as you're told and try to learn as much as you can. Your experience is just that at Freight or any other LTL company, you will go to the bottom of the flex board and work till drivers leave, or you earn a definite start time. It's great though.
Pay is dependent on region as well. There is Conway East, West, Central and Southern. So is overtime. I started @ 19.35/hrly at East, and I'm sure you are too, being in MI.
Wow. One of my employees is from Milan. I must now know both residents! I see lots of Con-way trucks of all makes and varieties around Grand Rapids.
My concern is getting in there and having my hours fluctuate to the point I will end up getting squeezed on making the bills
