Simple, there were more teir 3 terminals open... now shut down due to manditory bottom loading.... starting 2010. It's a huge problem that I don't see being solved very easily.

Same thing we did in 2004 after they came into effect in January 2004.

Was it '04? Close enough, the point being we operated just fine before restarts and will continue to do so after the change in 2013.

True but in reality delays happen etc and you run out of hours somewhere you don't wanna be, it's happened to me plenty of times

In over 30+ years in this business, it has happened to me, also. Never been a big deal, the world did not end and I still woke up the next morning.

I know, you're right but it just seems to happen to me when I got a weekend planned away or something, kinda reduces the quality of life and really annoying!

I want some mandatory vacation time in all these new rules. More off duty time means safer drivers. I think about 6 weeks a year like you euro guys would be just about right.

We're entitled to 4 weeks per year but it's not mandatory under tacho graph law, is gladly swap sitting at truckstops or gas stations for my weekend breaks and take them all together as a long holiday......if only the rule makers weren't so stupid and asked drivers what they want! But that's asking too much eh?
