    I wanna add a new rule;

    Driving for at least 30 min anytime after ure 14 only in the occurence of all of the following;

    A) Only when it is necessary to find a safe place to park

    B) Only after being off duty or in the sleeper for at least a consecutive 3 hours

    C) Only after driving no more than 5 hours and 30 minutes in a 24 hour period

    And I'm gonna call this rule "SANCTUARY"

    Oh if we had only switched to eLogs when I was running the midwest regional flatbed. I would have been cracking the whip and busting skulls, or some such crap like that.

    And the info provided tells you that doing it like that is INCORRECT.

    "Split Sleeper" references the old 5/5 rule, which no longer exists.

    That is only when using the split sleeper provision.

    Question 7: May a sleeper berth be used for a period of less than 2 hours' duration?
    Guidance: Yes. The sleeper berth may be used for such periods of inactivity. Periods of time of less than 2 hours spent in a sleeper berth may not be used to accumulate the 8 hours of off-duty time required by §395.3 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).

    (g) Sleeper berths'(1) Property-carrying commercial motor vehicle'(i) In General. A driver who operates a property-carrying commercial motor vehicle equipped with a sleeper berth, as defined in §§395.2 and 393.76 of this subchapter, (A) Must, before driving, accumulate (1) At least 10 consecutive hours off duty; (2) At least 10 consecutive hours of sleeper-berth time; (3) A combination of consecutive sleeper-berth and off-duty time amounting to at least 10 hours; or

    Code of Federal Regulations480

    (4) The equivalent of at least 10 consecutive hours off duty if the driver does not comply with paragraph (g)(1)(i)(A)(1), (2), or (3) of this section;

    I'm pretty sure I know my HOS, if you want to split it's 8 consecutive in the sleeper paired up with a 2 hour off duty/sleeper or combination at a later time and then you recalculate to the completion of the previous portion. I live in a world of split breaks, seriously.

    I used to dispatch that group once upon a time. Everything was on paper, and I was dumber than a box of rocks, so we discouraged splitting. With eLogs, my goodness. We may have never failed on a load and probably would have increased our on time service from 99.3% to something crazy like 99.5%.

    DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

    The old 5/5, 6/4, etc no longer exists, but the 8/2 does exist.
