My Sammons experience

Maxie do you think a year in Iraq with KBR would count hauled all kinds of stuff on
regular flat some oversize. I occasionally haul flat here flat bar steel and forklifts and the occasional
mmachaine, but it s spuratic.

 

I think that would work. They might have you do a securement class but that wouldnt hurt anyone. Give them a call

 

I work at Watkins in flatbed. Last I heard, they weren't recruiting drivers from the van division due to the number of experienced flatbed drivers applying. And they'd recruit from their van division (there's a list of them that want in) before hiring an inexperienced flatbed driver from outside the company, .. but might be still worth a try, I suppose. I think System, as suggested by NWMAXI, is a better bet.

WELL, I unloaded that out house 20 miles west of janesville CA in the MODOC national forest, one thing that was weird to me was in california the forest service roads were paved, never seen that before, bounce down to Sparks NV about 90 miles and got the truck and trailer serviced then washed up before my reload. i got a multistop home depot load which was mainly ladders and looked much like a jigsaw puzzle, after arguing with the guy that i can't have any over hang front or rear because my trailer is 53' we got management involved, what it came down to was i said fix it or take off..... they fixed it and it all fit just fine, and rolled to Denver and did my 6 deliveries yesterday and that took all day

I stayed at Johnsons corner truckstop in Loveland CO lastnight and the food is pricey but not a bad truck stop over all, they could pave the parking lot or allow drivers to beat the drivers that come in there against the rev limiter with the fan on, either way..

I loaded a 2 pick 1 drop today, 1st was in Wellington CO those guys were awesome 5 skids in and out 30 minutes with tie down time, head to Greeley for the 2 portion, and wow slow but it was ok 5 bigger skids got it on and tied down and headed to Laramie WY, i still have friends here from when i went to WYOTECH, gonna have dinner with them in a little bit, then tomorrow im gonna take my time heading for Yuba City, for tuesday unload, then reload comeing back to cheyenne. staying busy and should have some numbers for august next week,

johnsons corner is one of the best truck stops in the country IMO, i LOVE their food, and 6 free showers is a nice touch too lol. and what a stupid way to ship ladders...lol that looks like it would have been easyer in a van.

i didn't know their showers were free, but i agree the food was good even though i think it is a little pricey but the way everyone was that worked their was awesome so i didn't mind that much..

yes i think a van would of been better, maybe a little hard to load and unload those 18' ladders, just a crazy load, i watched another guy leave with only 6 straps on a load similar to mine, a little scary for me

 

Great thread...stumbled upon it yesterday and read the whole thing. I am glad you posted the picture of the ladder load. The last time we took something to NoCal, we were getting call for those loads heading toward the Denver Metro out of Reno. Most were 5-6 drops and didn't pay worth a hoot. After seeing on of the loads, I am glad we kept looking and found something else. Does Sammons work directly with that customer, or did you book through a broker?

 

the broker/trucking company called me when i posted my truck in the area... she must have been desperate to move it cause according to the office it was way higher then normal loads from them.., what was wierd is they had their own trucks in the area and they didn't get a load of them

as for that load i don't want to do another one

 

Yuba City! I'm amazed at how much time you're spending in CA when the Sammons recruiter I talked to told me they couldn't get me home here once a month.

Good job with the loading & securement on those ladders. Did you have to tarp it? That should have gone in a van or a curtain van.

 

i have no problem getting to or out of cali, they told me that it is hard to stay west but i am not having a problem with it, and my dead head is not crazy high...

no i didnt' have to tarp it and i wouldn't have, there is no way i was climbing up on that monstrosity
