At any wal mart or this one in particular? Most drivers are smart enough not to assume they can park by a "no trucks"/"vehicles over 5 tons will be towed" sign.

Ever heard the saying "don't beat a dead horse"? In this case...it needs to be beaten. Repeatedly. don't park beside the signs at Walmart, or anywhere else, unless you have permission, there is 20 other trucks already there, your truck is invisible, or if you have a gun over 5 tons, or if you are chuck Norris... of course

i had the same thing for the most part happen at the walmart at the 186. we dropped are trailer at the pilot and bob tailed down went in a did some shopping came back out and 2 two trucks where there told me i had to pay 1000.00 to them to keep my truck or 2500.00 to get it back from the shop. one truck had hooked to my steers but could not get the doors opend. the other had pulled in beside him. i climbed in the cab fired the old girl up put her in reverse and started dragging the tow truck about 5 feet. rolled down the window and told them to either un hook or i would drag it till it came off. needless to say the unhooked called the police. the cops found me at the pilot question me and looked at my recipt from walmart. cops told me the had some many complaints about that tow company they where glad someone stood up to them and let me go free of charge. i called the walmart and spoke with the manger and he told me they had not called any tow trucks. i stopped in a week later and went straight to the manger and spoke with him to let him know i was in a truck and he asked if i was the one from last week. told him yes and he let me know that they had banned the tow truck company from their property.....

carrkool...you had guts...I applaud you....did that WALMART had any signs and did they have any contract...
the situation in Eaton, OH is different because after we called 911....the 2 cops came in and had "a very friendly chat session" with the tow
    crew....
also....they took our glad hand out so we could not move....they did that prior to bang on the door.... very sneeky....we were inside the truck (2 of us as team) and did not even hear a thing!!!
is there a way to contact you direct? We have some high profile team looking into this "trucker discrimination scam" based on towing...let us know...we are looking if Walmart has a pattern of this kind of scam involving tow companies!!!

There have been times when walmart was our only option for overnight....the clock had just completely run out......and we have parked, along with 6 or 7 other semi's, right next to the no truck parking sign. I know it was wrong, but being out of hours limits ones choices. Im not sure how Jason's Law would apply to "out of hours, but Walmart is right here". We were never bothered by anyone, but then, we try to be very low key in those situations. No idling, keep ourselves in our trucks, and by all means, take care of our trash. I guess it also helps that we always ask permission before we settle in for the night, and make sure that we are well out of the way of their customer parking area so that the sweeper can do his thing too.

girltrucker---we have been in similar cases ourselves....there was never a problem....this time around we were not to park there....still had several hours on the log book...just pulled over to take care of medical situation....was there 5 minutes or so...in fact we were NOT in FRONT OF WALMART...but on the opposite side of it....in front of RAC rantal center which was closed at 8:30pm!!!! We were simply suraunded by this towing outfit....and they took our glad hand out...disabled us and demanded payment of $500.00 before giving it back....we asked for it and told them we will move immediately....we never left the truck...never shopped at WALMART THERE although we planned to do so for medical supplies...
the whole thing was not about illegal parking but about $500.00cash!!! We cried poor which actually was the case....we had no cash and had to call for advance against the load ...ended up paying $250.00 just to get away from those people....of course as you read....cops were not help here...but actually supported the towing crew although we called...cops provided the appearance of legitimacy to this situation....
We hired lawyers and they are handling the case; our lawyers are working now on this; this is not about a $250.00 bucks....but about principles....
