Those governed speeds seem dangerous when the posted speed limit is 20 mph over what the truck will do. All in the name of lower insurance and fuel savings?
Prime or US XPress?

Sadly even when you are doing the speed limit people are passing you at 20 mph over. Luckily we have good drivers. OR there would be BLOOD AND GUTS ALL OVER AMERICA'S HIGHWAY'S. Did I say BLOOD AND GUT'S? Yep.

Con-Way Freight hires with no experience just a CDL, Class A with tanker and hazmat. You just have to look for an opening for Driver Trainee. They have terminals all over the place.

I drive 60-62mph 90% of the time.
My truck is not governed. I just do not like driving fast.
But if traffic is intense and blasting past me, I feel safer going faster, to avoid a bum pounding and not create a dangerous situation. -
I got my CDL with prime I'm 23. Been driving/training for two months now and I have no complaints at the moment. What I realize some drivers I spoke to have a problem going so slow in prime trucks but It all depends on how you look at it. Me as long as I have enough time to make it there I really don't care how fast I'm going it helps me not rush into an accident and it qualifies me for the fuel bonus every week. Prime is a GREAT starting company in my opinion. I'll be driving my own light weight truck at 41 cents a mile in about a month or so. My best advice don't start off leasing. Seeing my father pay so much owning his own freightliner. truckers make a lot but if you start or own your own truck you end up spending a lot . Good luck on your choice

At first I was worried about governed trucks and the speed of 55-58 on cruise I can run it up to 62 (prime) it's really not that big of a deal. It's a big deal if you ride the left lane. Now that's a problem I stay my slow ### on the right 90% of the time. Late night shifts I'll drive in the middle lane so I'm not in anyone's way and they are not in mine. Come on guys seeing so much trucking accidents I really have no problem gettin. Paid to go slow so stop staring at me like I'm crazy when y'all pass me lol

My first choice out of school was Prime and it was a big mistake. They are geared to make you a lease operator and will push this the very first day of orientation. Their doctor is a complete moron and you better not have or admit to any medical issues because you will not get your medical card and you will be stranded there at your own expense. I have been on the road for a few months and have only seen one Prime tanker. They have beautiful multi million dollar facilities that have gym's and even a place to get a manicure and a hair cut. (Truckers love manicures) Being that you are 21 you can't be picky and you will also find that most companies are basically the same. Remember if a trucker tells you he made 80k in a year you have to almost cut that in half, because he had to work in excess of 70hrs. to achieve that.

Everyones ripping on us Prime drivers for driving slow lol. I came to Prime with with no experience, got a license for free went company, took out a lightweight truck, and made 50k my first year on the road driving 56mph. I thought that was pretty good pay for a rookie and I didnt really work all that hard either. Prime pays more per/mile than most training companies. You folks drive by the numbers on your speedometer Ill drive by the numbers on my paycheck.
Offender Thanks this. -
I don't think these people are ripping on the driver, because we realize that your truck is governed and there is nothing that you can do about that. I personally feel that it should be illegal for a company to govern a truck for a speed that is less than the legal limit. My truck is governed at 65 and I drive in states that are 70 and I feel as though I am a hazard because I am not keeping up with the main flow of traffic; furthermore, if you get two trucks that are governed at the same speed and are loaded with different weights all you have is two drivers playing the I pass you and then you pass me game. Governed trucks bottle neck traffic (I-80 through Pa.) and create a traffic hazard. Truckers that are not governed become furious when they get behind someone that thought they could get around a slower vehicle and could not. They then get on the radio and start insulting the driver of the slower vehicle and this causes all drivers around to become involved in a stupid conversation about how great of a truck driver he or she may be. Truck driving is a relatively simple concept (there is stuff over here and it has to go over there). Companies claim to save millions of dollars a year in fuel and insurance expenses by governing their trucks, but they get to write fuel off on their taxes. When I did my taxes this year I did not see a spot for a write off due to not being able to drive the speed limit. Company wins and driver loses as usual.
