Yes and no. Per diem has nothing to do with those numbers being different. I am assuming that you have insurance and/or 401k deductions, since you said the amounts were different. Your entire gross is taxable for FICA and Medicare, while your gross less pre-tax deductions (the aforementioned medical and 401k, for example) is taxable for federal income tax.

    More made-up number examples:

    Gross pay of $50000
    Pre-tax deductions of $15000
    Federal income taxable = $35000, while FICA/Medicare taxable = $50000.

Sometimes I struggle to grasp concepts, but once I get it, I remember it forever...

I'm not going to try and argue the point as so much comes down to state taxes and your personal financial situation. For me being on Per Diem would have cost me around $1,000 in after tax income last year, for Moosc it's the inverse.

The one thing I will point out is at .16 CPM and 135,000 miles you'd be paid $21,600 in PD pay. At 300 days out the Standard Meal Deduction is $17,700 (300 x $59) of which only $14,160 is deductible. Unless I'm missing something you're getting paid MORE in PD than the Standard Meal Deduction.

LMAO, really SNI? You screw over your already employed drivers and then put this on craigslist? How about you take that 5k and give it to the drivers who work their butt off everyday?

Sorry, had to vent, bad day coupled with new dbl who I don't think I am gonna get along with.

routed miles should be paid. as much profit as there are claiming in addition to all that fuel saved, come off with real good raises.

That would be a big step, run I had today is 178 paid miles, but the route is 192. Same on the way back. Add that up over a week.
