Yup. As I wasn't sold on flatbeds, I wasn't seriously considering TMC before I heard about their benefits (i.e. The high 401k match). After talking with a guy in my CDL class (his buddy has been with them for years), I put in an application with them. I'm supposed to hear back from them on Monday. They sound like they'd definitely be a good place for a new guy to get going in the business.

Bubba, I just finished up orientation and my first week out with my trainer. I have been nothing but impressed with how professionally the company is run. It is definitely not a place for a fast and loose person, but anyone who has a decent work ethic and whose mama gave them a little home training should do well there. As a new guy to trucking and TMC I can confirm the training is very good. Just go in with a positive attitude, follow the few simple rules they lay down and be ready to work.

Good deal. I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your decision to go with them. At this point, I'm pretty much set on going with TMC (I got a pre-hire earlier week). The only way that I'll change my mind at this point is if I can find a decent paying local gig.

Ok, I stand corrected on a comment I made a couple of weeks ago on how the TMC 401k match was kind of weak. I don't know if it was this thread or another but I understood it to be 10 cents on the dollar, or a 10% match. Dollar for dollar, or 100% match, up to a 5% contribution on the employees part is actually quite generous. Thanks Mr. Gumpshrimp for posting the link to the 401k guide!

I looked at the link to the 401k plan. They have some good choices in there (T.Rowe Price & Vanguard). Not very familiar with most of the others.

Yup. They have funds that are similar to what I've seen with my previous employers. I will say that their matching percentage...though lower than I was told...is still higher than anywhere else that I've seen (including my past two employers). You're generally doing good to get 100% matching up to 3%. 4% and up is a good deal.

Anyone with any smarts will put in the maximum amount, even if it grows at 3percent a year that's more than bank interest.
