How did your first week go? I'm new to these forums, I just started running P&D out of the Maybrook, NY terminal 2 weeks ago.

Sorry didn't get back to ya sooner JBR. First couple of days were rough, getting back in the swing of things and all! I've been off for 3 weeks prior to starting here. The equipment is much to be desired, I left NEMF 2 months ago and thought they had junk! Boy was I Wrong! Anyway did this local stuff the last few years. Same old song and dance, different name on the door! I keep ya updated from time to time! Crazey-out!

Sounds good dude, we got walked today, but luckily they let me take a short road turn during the day so I could get my 3rd days work this week, which guarantees me a day's pay on Friday when we're off for the Good Friday holiday. Back on the 8am shape tomorrow morning, we'll see if we get walked again. I doubt it though, only Wednesday's seem to be quiet. This my first gig with any company doing this kind of work, I don't mind it really, my father work P&D out of Mount Vernon for 15 years and always told me to apply to Yellow so I finally did. Long hours for sure, but being 24 years old, my paycheck even with the 15% give back and at the bottom pay rate, is still double what I've ever earned. I guess my generation just never got to experience the great wages these jobs used to pay, so I'm grateful for how good this seems to me. Hard to believe for the old timers at my terminal, but it is what it is. Talk to you soon.

He left back in 2001 way before the merger with Roadway, he was an original Yellow guy. Doubt you'd know him, based on your age on your profile lol Where do you live that you were able to commute to work out of either terminal? Must be fairly close to where I live... I'm in Putnam County, NY. Mahopac to be specific.

Ah okay I see, yeah Mt Pleasant too far for a commute to maybrook lol I've been running the peddle run down in the croton/peekskill/cortlandt area recently. Hoping they give me that area full time, the guy who used to run it retired back in November and they haven't dedicated anyone to that area since. Being that I live right there I know the area and dispatch said he's seriously considering letting me have it once I make the list. This week will be starting my 4th week so hopefully make the list pretty soon, they need drivers bad.

Who are you working for now?

Linehaul single man (not sleeper): Start at 85% of full pay, .44 / mile, 17.90 / hour for anything not driving related (breakdown, fueling, terminal delays). Extra board can be hit or miss. I am averaging 4 trips / week, around 2200 miles.

Any overnight runs (most of them) you will be in a hotel. You are on call after your 10 hour break is up, so you go out whenever you get a call. All runs you will get 2 hours to be at the terminal.

The equipment can either be brand new (rarely) to 1 million mile plus (frequently). If you are dispatched out of a terminal, the equipment should be 100% ready to go - fueled, windows cleaned, etc.

    mpow66m Thanks this.
