1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I have been looking for work for almost a year now. Every company I apply for says either “we are not hiring for your area right now” or they just refuse to call me back. I realize my driving record is not perfect, but at this point, I might have to change careers.

    Here is the rundown:

    • I have one “NON-DOT” minor preventable accident, totaling approximately $1000 in damage (a scratch down the side of a car) with no fatalities, no tow, and no injuries.
    • I have 3 moving violations:
      • Speeding 13mph over
      • Speed unsafe for prevailing conditions (was going 43 or so in a 45 when raining and officer said I was driving to fast for the weather.)
      • Failure to obey traffic sign. (this was a parking ticket for sleeping on a ramp in VA. According to a new VA code, highway patrol can cite you for a moving violation while you are asleep!) Thankfully, it has no points associated with it.
    • I have a suspension on my MVR due to the glorified parking ticket in VA. (above) The court issued a suspension for failure to pay the ticket within 15 days of the judgment. I even offered to make payment arrangements to no avail. But wait, that’s not all. It seems that VA did not place a hold on my Texas license, but somehow managed to suspend my driving privileges (for VA only??) So, I was never notified of a suspension in VA, and my license was still valid! Thankfully, this so-called suspension occurred during a time-period in which I was un-employed, so there are no overlapping dates with a DOT driving job.

It seems these three things make me completely and totally unemployable. Any suggestions? Will anyone hire me?

If they don't call you back, keep calling them. I mean KEEP calling. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!

Not all states have recerprocity with every other state. this is how your license can be suspended in one but not another. My dads was suspended in FL but FL has reciprocity with like nobdy so he just stayed out of FL.lol heck I think it's still suspended

Hell, I have three moving violations in the last 12 months and no one will hire me. It really sucks. Improper turn, failure to obey highway sign and following too closely. They are killing me and I can't seem to find someone that is willing to hire me.

    Three Tickets:

    1. 13MPH over~6 points (almost a MAJOR Infraction)
    2. Basic Speed violation (too fast for conditions/due care and concern)~3 points
    3. disobeying a traffic sign (even though it is a "parking ticket") COULD mean running a stop sign OR failure to yield~3 points
12 Points total (or it would be here in Michigan) would get you 1 year suspension on the onset. Pretty serious stuff, could indicate either a disregard of the law, or a serious inattention problem. You are probably looking at least 3 years unemployability, or until one or more tickets drop off your license. It takes 3 years to drop points.
    Good Luck.

If you have a CDL, there doesn't need to be reciprocity between states. If your CDL is suspended in ONE state, it is suspended in ALL states.

Actually if you read my post carefully...

...you will see there are no points for this infraction.
