Currently in the middle of an in-chassis on my 600hp c15 acert. Liner heights are all measuring between .002 and .003 except one. #3 is at .004. These values are a little low, but if I use the thinner spacer plate available form CAT (.003 thinner) all liners will be within spec except #3, which would then sit at .007, just .001 above CAT's recommended range. Anyone bolted their motor together with any of these numbers? Really trying to avoid removing and cutting the block...

I could be wrong, but I believe the counter bores can be cut in-frame.

Yes cutting the block can and is usually done with out removing the engine.

I'm sure he is trying to avoid pulling the liner kits

Block can be cut in place. We never had any head gasket issues with our 5EK's setting them at .005. Only thing i would suggest is buy the Cat shim packs. Only ones i've seen liners move in were done with some other mfg shims.

Unless you want to take it apart again, you definitely want to have the counterbores machined for shims. Cat liners should be at .0055" to .0065" if you want it to last a long time. I cut them all the time!

Cut the counter bore's and use the cat shims. Get them more uniform than what you have. Dont go below .004.

Fastened in place with grade 8 bolts and flat washers.

Don't use any washer you will put marks on the liner flange and spacerplate. Spend the few $$ and get the soft washers from cat for that. And torque the bolts to 70 ft lb

Got a set of those washers on the way from CAT. I'll post the numbers when it's all set up. Thanks-
