You guys really do sound like a bunch of middle school kids getting caught smoking behind the portables.

I dont know if its just company guys or a socioeconomic thing, but the law is the law. Your company doesnt have anything on you as far as policies. You are just out of a job. Its widely understood that if you are OFF DUTY you can go buy alcohol and transport it to where you are going to (gasp) consumn it. There is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. Everything in moderation. ... even your judgement of other people or fear of your company job. The people you see crying on this thread are the same people snitching on fellow company drivers to, i guess, make themselves, look better. Leave it alone. None of you are special because you drive a truck. If every one in this society acted like the people on this forum it would be a coutry that resembled a kindergarten that had a tinge of a lack of acceptance for others based on their lifestyle or beliefs. Everyone seems scared or always trying to cya. To be honest if my job required me to feel this way, i would find another. Its not like most of you are getting rich, just running around scared for yourself and worried about what every one else is doing.

How do you know it's widely understood that you can purchase Alcohol and then transport it in a CMV for consumption elsewhere? Did you do a survey on the subject? I think it's a bad idea to have any Alcohol in a CMV ever. I don't know of any Trucking companies that do? If you do know of any companies that allow Alcohol in their Trucks would you like to name them. And how arrogant to imply that anyone who disagrees witb you is childish. And since when was drinking Alcohol good for you? It has destroyed millions of people's lives throughout history and kills people everyday including unborn children who suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. And if you don't like what the other members of this forum post here why don't you go find another website to spew your ignorant opinions. What gives you the right to insult people you don't know who have a different opinion then you do?

Well Stevens is one of those companies that are strict on that policy. I know a driver that got canned by them because the company sent someone that FOLLOWED HIS TRUCK on a Friday night to a grocery store (where the driver bought some alcohol and put it in the storage compartment)and then followed the truck to the driver's home outside of Dallas. The driver wasn't under any load,he was deadheading home. Nonetheless, the following Monday, the driver got routed in to the Dallas terminal and was terminated. That driver works for Western Express now(seen him a couple of times on the road).

You may not see any issues carrying a couple beers with you in the sleeper to wind down with at the end of the day...but the DOT does if you're on duty! Whatever you buy to consume after your shift needs to be gone (or if you can haul alcohol, make out a BOL for it and stick it in the trailer...manifested part of the load). DOT finds it in the fridge while you're under a load and you're toast. Silly as it is, to them it's not much different than sitting in the cup holder next to you, it just isn't as obvious. Chances are, they'll never find it in your fridge...but stuff happens, and if they do, you're toast.

Because the guidance section on the FMCSA website tells us that if you're off duty and using the CMV for personal use, that the rule regarding the transportation of alcohol does not apply.

    Company policies may vary.

...and studies have repeatedly shown certain benefits for MODERATE alcohol use (as in 1-2 drinks per day)...Lower cholesterol, reduced risk for heart disease, etc. Of course you can (and people do) overdo it, in which case there are some nasty negatives (liver disease, alcohol poisoning, etc.) but in moderation, it isn't the evil substance you'd like to think it is.

Well, I for one can tell you that you do get a fine for having alcohol in the truck. Ask our driver that got one last year. They were unopened and he was on the way back to the yard to go home.

I never said that Alcohol was Evil. Yes it
does have a few minimal benefits. I drink Alcohol on rare occasions myself. I still am 100% against it ever being in a CMV unless it's Cargo. If you want to tell everyone about how beneficial drinking Alcohol can be why not attend an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting and try to convince them of your theories.
