ELD Mandate

My boss seems to think that since his trucks are 'antiques', he will get to bypass this. I currently drive a 98 Freighshaker. 2 million mile truck, but the top end of motor is fresh and the turbo is new. It's a beat up mess on the inside, but starts and runs.

 

according to my company, theres an exception to drivers who operate within a 100 air mile radius and for trucks older than a 2000 year model.

 

There is ELD software on the android "play store". Alot of them are free. They support the ability to email logs. Several are free. Then again, I dont turn class 8 miles right now so it isnt a obligation to my pickup.

 

That's my thing I usually stay within 250 miles of home so I make it home every day. Paper allows me to get that extra hour in ti get home if I need to but like above poster said I'll just have to time manage better!

 

If you have a dispatcher, let's hope s/he is on the same page with you for that... else you could easily get screwed.

 

i used the qualcomm elds for years. then went to paper. all i can say is life got a whole lot easier once i got off elogs. get to sleep at night more often. not rushed in bad situations. able to pick up and deliver loads much easier. stay out of snow storms and other bad weather more often. make it to safe places to park. get home in a more timely manner. make more money. feel like a human being again cause im better rested. i could go on and on.

if elds become mandatory it will be a crime to truckers. those whom push them are big carriers and those whom work for them. cause they buy into the bs and dont know any different. i was one at one time. its utter ########!

 

So what you're saying is while on Elogs, you couldn't cheat

 

am i more concerned about ten minutes here and there or the things i mentioned. the things i mentioned of course. from a safety standpoint alone paper is better. and the list goes on.

 

See I've been on elogs for 3 years of my measly 3.5 yrs out here. While on paper i was pushed harder by my boss and expected to always be at my delivery the next morning regardless. At all my companies while on Elogs, I've never been pushed to drive when tired, or speed to get someplace. If I'm out of hours, I'm out of hours. So the situation you are counting here doesn't exist from my standpoint.

And it doesn't matter if 10 minutes or 20, you're still trying to circumvent your logs.

 

im just not so anal. the whole point of it all is safety and the well being of the driver.

i work for a good company. they leave me alone and let me do my job. what your experiencing doesnt go in where i work. in your case that isn't so from what you said.
