Well, I can certainly see the appeal. Go here, pick up a load, deliver it there, and basically not need to have any contact with people for days.
i know why allot of people like OTR i never liked it, i "tolerated it" just to "do my time" and get the heck out. i did not like sleeping in a truck, i did not like eating at trucks tops or restaurants daily (costly), i did not like waiting in line for a shower, i did not like waiting for a washing machine to be available, i did not like NOT getting my haircut, i did NOT like missing or constantly rescheduling doctor appointments, and that is just the "few things" of inconveniences i can recall right now. for those THAT DO LIKE OTR, good luck to them. but i have a life, and family, and other things MORE important to me, then staying away from home weeks at a time, and going thru the inconveniences of life on the road.
We all have lives, so your insinuation that otr drivers don't have one is a bit one sided. We all deal with things in our own manner. Like me, i cut my own hair, so no need for a barber on the road, i eat out of my truck, so saves me money, and is healthier, i catch a shower during my 30 min break did i don't have to deal with a line, i go home weekly so np need to wait for a washer or dryer, and I've only missed of dr appt, and that was when i first started. So yeah, it depends on how yippy approach your time out. Me personally i love otr
you gotta realize, i started driving back in the very early 1980's and in cab cooking appliances were not that common, heck we only had ice chests, not even plug in coolers. truck stops were not what they are now, larger and more abundant. so there is a time difference between my time LONG HAUL as we used to call it, over the sissified OTR it is known as today.
and that's what i got, i drive for serafini construction and do dump truck. great people, well maintained equipment, safety is priority number one, and decent pay for the work. i am not complaining lol
Local doesnt pay well in my area, if it did I wouldnt be doing otr. as far as city driving is concerned otr includes all types.
I told you,you were going to have to hustle the Dump truck around the city. Your earning every penny, but at least your getting Some overtime out of them. Just keep grinding,it'll get easier.
You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly why most of us enjoy OTR. It's the part that nobody seems to understand.
