Nope, and any compliant ELD that is the case as it's the law. The most that can be done is drive time reassigned, and annotated at the admin level. It cannot be removed though.

in other words.. can you cheat/hack ELD or AOBRD... answer is probably yes, is it known or easily found, no. With time it might be a little bit easier to wrap your hands around it as with all electronics. think of it as with the dish tv cards or cable boxes or any computer program.. its all in the back door.. give it time (unless someone feels like sharing already) and with all 'moding' matters, are you ready to deal with the consequences if you get caught?

I believe you have to start and stop at the same location for personal conveyance.

Not necessary. PC can be driving anywhere unladen AND not for "work" purposes. There will be further controversy (mark my words) with various inspectors about whether an empty trailer qualifies because some of them believe it does, and some say "bobtail only." I have already heard both answers from different "authorities." (and yes I know what the wording says, but that isn't going to stop some of the boneheads from arguing it until a black-and-white response is drafted at the FMCSA with the word "trailer" defined specifically in it instead of "unladen.")

It is time to get serious about this crap. I did note all of the systems mentioned here and will do my own research and calls. Please, correct me if I am wrong. In order to be complaint starting Dec 17th, whatever eld provider I choose...be it Keep Krucking, Big Road, JJ Keller ...whatever that is recognized by FMCSA.
it does have to be attached to the ECM port...the same one where I have my scanguage plugged in?
So should I assume that these ELD providers have the available hardware to plug into that port and communicate with the app installed on a phone or tablet (hardwired or Bluetooth)?
There is no way the let you use an app only for the initial two years without ECM connection?
Just curios now...What data do they want to draw from the ECM - speed, odometer, ....back exhaust pressure lol? Why is a GPS alone not sufficient for this?

It needs to be plugged into the diagnostic port. Most of the app based programs are Bluetooth. Keeptruckin has the capability to be plugged directly into your phone or tablet, that only works on Android they told me. Which sucks because I prefer Apple.

Here is a link to see what the difference between AOBRD and ELD are.

What are the differences in specs in the 1988 AOBRD Rule and the ELD rule?

    whoopNride and TallJoe Thank this.
