what happens when you brokers fail at getting loads covered?

Generally how much leeway do you guys get from customers if you don't get loads covered?
I'm in the other side of the equation as an O/O but am curious.
Heard a few times lately "can you please help me out here I really need this covered"
"You'll save my butt by doing this load"
"I must get this load moved or else I'm in deep"

etc

makes one wonder...

 

So do you feel bad and get those loads moved?

Brokers do like to make a mountain out of a molehill, They'll never show there true Hand, But to answer your question,

I Deal with Many Common/Contract Carriers here in Chicago that also Broker overflow freight or... Less than Stellar Lanes....

Non-Asset based brokerages (No capacity) Pay you guys boatloads of Money,Because the last thing they want to do is Give freight Back.IT DOES HAPPEN..Brokers will simply give the freight back to a shipper,buyer-consignee,Whoever is in charge of the Trans Process on that move.

and These days..Many Shippers have their own Logistics dept to handle the "Given back" Shipments

Now,The Carriers I've known will put it on their own truck in last ditch effort,If they can't-They'll Give the freight back

Not a real Big Deal, It Happerns Quite a bit.

Got a question here. So in "giving the load back" does the broker own the freight? Like how does that play out?

Do brokerages buy freight? I just pictured them as pimps trying to make money off of someone else

No, Nobody "owns" the Freight except the Buyer,Whom can be a 3rd party Buyer or the consignee directly-

But, Some Shippers WILL charge a Fee to a brokerage/carrier,If they cant Move the load(s)

You New guys That run for brokers exclusively..be Careful, Some of these Subpar brokerages will try to pass that Fee onto YOU if you Fall off their shipment......Unless stipulated in their BCA's.........You are Not Liable for that fee.

How much of a percentage of a cut do you think most brokers are taking on the freight?

 

As much as they can...if you roll over and play dead, as they decide which orifice to start with...
