Hello everyone I'm new to this page and this is my first question I've been driving in Europe for 3 years have done everything from reefer to dry van to car hauler but after being in Europe for so long I missed the states so I decided to move back and get my CDL but I failed my DOT physical because of high blood pressure which I don't mind cuz I didn't take my prescription for that day but the one that does bother me is that they gave me 20/100 in one of my eyes but recently I went to the DMV to renew my license when I got back and I got 20 40 so my question is did the DMV just not care or should I try a different doctor or maybe try to get glasses I know I have a weak eye I had it ever since I was a kid but it never bothered me driving here in Europe so should I try to go get glasses what is your guyses advice
Although when I was 13 they told me glasses wouldn't help so I don't know if it would but I mean I guess it's worth a shot right
You know WHY you didn't pass the physical. All I'm saying is that you should correct those issues (which on the surface seem easy enough to correct) and try again. There are people a lot worse off than you who have overcome much bigger problems and managed to pass the physical, so if it's something you WANT, excuses won't get you there. Go see an eye doc and get the problem fixed.
AFAIK 20/35 is the limit for uncorrected. See an optometrist, because vision correction has improved.
Go see a eye surgeon (Which is a higher skill level than just a walmart eye examiner...) and determine the cause and ability to correct that vision. Cataracts would be one example. Retinas would be another source etc. You will have your vision corrected to 20/20 as possible but after the work is done, glasses made and paid for etc and your ability to see better than 20/40 will be tested. Your blood pressure must be below limits preferably without medicine. US Trucking is incredibly intolerant of medicine in general. You are here, which means you are probably a dual citizen etc. So.. there is that. You might need to acquire certain documents to get a CDL here. Laws have been tightened recently. Make sure you have a enhanced license, because after 2020 you will not be able to board domestic USA flights without one or enter federal installations. You have excuses as laid out by others. There are people sicker than you are who managed to get onto the road with a Semi truck. Brush up on weights, axle limits and our American system of measurements etc. We are not Europe in many ways when it comes to trucking and vice versa.
I appreciate everyone giving me hope that there still a possibility of getting my CDL thank you for all your guyses help hopefully I'll be out there Trucking with you guys
