How can I scale 45900 LBS on van

Hello everyone

I am interested in hauling car parts for BMW but they load the pallets to max and must be able to scale 45900 pounds.

I know they move them and up until recently they did a lot of business with landstar owner ops.

Are there special trailers that haul them? I spoke with the shipping manager and he said he sees wabash regular dry vans do them but doesn’t do much more about trucking specs


Do I have to find a special trailer or what is the deal? Lighter tractor? We run cascadias

Maybe you could look into the specs for the Cascadias Prime uses to haul heavy loads. They have a shorter nose and smaller sleeper. They have the vents on the sides of the hood whereas the regular Cascadias don't.

 

I have a Volvo 670 & Utility 53' dry van. My empty weight with 1/2 tanks is right at 32,500.

 

100% the same by me. Well....I weigh 265 lbs though so I might be a bit heavier. .

 

Places like swift,schneider and other megas order lightweight trucks and trailer for accounts like that.

 

My company runs Cascadias and Volvos with Wabash reefers and we regularly put 46k in the box (both refrigerated as well as non-refrigerated). Just have to make sure you know how to distribute the load right and how to set your trailer tandems properly... Empty I weight 33,200 max... That's fully fueled (truck 200 gal. and reefer 60 gal.), all my crap, tools, jumper cables, tire chains, load-locks, ECT. It will also help if you have your steer axle setup to legally take 12,500... I often with heavy loads run about 12,200 on my steer.

 

I agree with being able to max out the front axle makes it very easy. The right front tires can get you legal at 14000 on front axle in most states.

Yeah but to haul 46k to 46.5k you don't need to have those really fat steer tires that will let you go to 14k steer weight... Just need to be able to get 12.5k on it and it can easily be done... Unless of course you have a fairly heavy light-weight
