If I carry anything with an 18 inch barrel, it'll be a scatter gun with 5 double ought buck behind a rifled slug.

    And STAY Down,
    Dang-nabbit!

But, you're correct about that .45-70.
Used to shoot a H&R single shot chambered for
    that potent round.
Something about 500 grains (1/2 OUNCE) that just
wants to keep on goin' and goin'.
Used to call it the rock buster.

Would you believe I used it to hunt varmints?

    I didn't think so. :biggrin_25525:

    Good choice.
And NOwhere near as finicky as an autoloader.

Wise old-timers only chamber 5 rounds.
That's how they lived to be old-timers. :biggrin_25523:

Not to mention that recoil recovery is quicker than a heavier caliber.
    Even with my heavier hand-loads.
A .357 is probably one of the best all-around rounds, IMO.
    That, or a .41 magnum.

    Ken and Joetro Thank this.

I just hate picking up all the links from my driveway so they won't puncture my tires.

I hope you got enough juice and ammo to run that cannon, taking out thieves, groups of 1000 at a time
