Only as long as the shipment (load) stays intrastate. If the load is to be shipped outside Cali, even if the driver never leaves the state, Federal rules apply.

That news to me.
Driver never leaves but load does. Driver has federal rules not state.
So all the Port mules run under federal rules. Interesting.

 

Midwest Truckers in Illinois said that their lawyers looked everything over and have said that you can haul seed ag exempt within your 150 air miles all day, then hook a load of seed going out of state. Once you get beyond your state line or you 150 air miles, then you have to run a log book. And your 11/14 hour day starts at that point. According to them if you utilize the ag exemption, you can now run more than you could before. I don’t know how much stock I would put in that, but that’s what Midwest Truckers said. Just thought I would let y’all know.

 

That would be correct as long as the seed was ag exempt. Just like cows. As long as I stay within 150 air miles no log needed until I go past that.

When the intent of the transportation being performed is interstate in nature, even when the route is within the boundaries of a single State, the driver and CMV are subject to the FMCSRs.

 

Looks like one of those bureaucratic catch 22's that could get one into trouble with either the state or feds. It doesn't always matter what a regulation says. What matters is whatever the person issuing citations thinks matters.
