Taking children on the road?

Now that right thar just ain't right.
NO-Way under these circumstances.
Activities teach young minds full of mush ---
TEAMWORK.
To run out on the team on a whim, ----
What does that teach 'em?

There's MUCH more involved here than just a trip in a
Big truck.
With relative strangers.
Ya reckon.

 

A friend of mine took his son, 9, on a run to Alaska, from Toronto, figuring it would be the trip of a lifetime.
He lives with his father and mother so it is a different situation.
Anyway, the point is, working is not like a vacation, and though Johnny enjoyed some of the trip, most of it was just BORING.
Expecting a 5 year old to be cooped up in a truck for 2 weeks borders on cruelty.

 

Update - I got a call from the mother yesterday around 1pm to let me know that they were back in town and were planning on picking up my niece that evening and run a load to NY. I immediately called our attorney and we both headed to the courthouse where we were able to get an emergency restraining order.

After some tense moments last night, everything seems to be OK for now. This really has just jump started a process that we should have pushed for years ago.

My wife and I would like to thank everyone on this board for their help and advice. (Especially you Texas-Nana).

 

I'm relieved to know the emergency order was given. I'll keep praying as y'all seek custody. It's often a long process but it's a possible one. And no need at all to thank me, it's I that thanks you for caring for and protecting this child.

Teach Our Children Well.
It's ALL about the children ----- IMO.
They look to us for guidance and protection -----
And the children deserve both from us.

 

I absolutely would NOT allow this to happen. Talk to the lawyer and see if there is some legal avenue to prevent it. The rights wouldn't have to be terminated but I am sure there has to be some form of child welfare laws preventing this. It is NOT a suitable environment for a 5 year old. Period. As unpleasant as Mom sounds, offer her the bonding time at home. At your house. With you all there. I wish the best of luck and please post how this turns out.

 

Looks like I replied before I read the last page. My bad. Glad something was able to happen! Like I said, the road is NO place!

 

I am seeing more and more little kids in trucks on the road

 

Too often, I fear, if not for the Big truck -----

The mom told me the same thing. I told it just because you see it being done does not make it right.

I thought we had an understanding with the mother but she called Thrusday night claiming the Protection Order was fake and she was going to come get her daughter. I told her that I would have a sheriff waiting to meet her to verify the order. She hung up.

So after staying up all night looking through the window for them to show up I decided the best thing to do is get out of town for the weekend and avoid a confrontation with the father.
