Currently with my Medtronic insulin pump i have to check my bloodsugars regularly every day just like any diabetic would have too.

My insulin pump has the ability to calculate a blood sugar reading to determine how much insulin i should take to get my bloodsugar down into the "green zone" Green zone is 80-200.
The insulin pump just pushes the insulin from a plastic reservoir through a small plastic tube thats hooked up to my body somehwere(usually my leg or stomach).

So all i have to do is 1.Check my bloodsugar(with a bloodsugar checker(NOT MY PUMP)) then 2. that number gets sent to my insulin pump automatically and it spits out the number of units of insulin that my body needs based on my glucose level in my blood. I then hit a button on my pump(insulin gets injected into body via insulin pump and tubing) and my body will come down to the bloodsugar that i am trying to achieve.

In October i am eligible for the "closed loop" pump. The closed loop pump has the ability to check my bloodsugar in real time and then automatically compensates to adjust my blood sugar. Keep in mind the pump can only lower blood sugar levels, not increase it.

It's called the Medtronic 670G if anyone is interested.... But I have thought that once im on this system, it'll almost be like not being a diabetic!

And thanks for everyones input I do appreciate it. Sounds like no trucking company wants to hire a diabetic. I wish i didnt have to disclose it but it is a serious condition when you could pass out behind the wheel. By the way I have never passed out due to my condition.

 

Never say never.

You WILL at some point. There is a very special form of coma like problems against Diabetics. Which is why they are generally banned from touching a Semi truck.

Once you go out or pass out or into a coma, that semi truck becomes a killing machine. You do NOT want that ever on your soul, your life and your future *(Which will all go away should you survive.)

That is one problem with young people generally. Never say never. IT WILL happen sometime. You think it wont. But it will.

That is one of the reasons it is excluded from trucking. You can have all the technology you want, which will make it worse when you go up against scanners that are capable of interfering with same with the correct frequency hostile to your technology. I wear hearing aids and i know instantly when I am being "Scanned" in some form in certain specific situations because the aids begin to not work correctly.

I am not your opponent. you stay with GM and your life will progress well enough with them until at a certain point your focus will become more towards survival rather than productivity.

 

Be prepared to lose some of the rights you have always taken for granted if you decide to go for a cdl.
Theres a reason why a lot of good trucking companies won't hire someone like you it's because their insurance calls a lot of the shots.

As everyone's been saying make sure you really want to do this since A, someone with a condition like yours will find it much harder than others through no fault of your own and B, to second Ridgeline's post you can actually die in this job and going into sugar shock is a great way to do that.

 

Dude, all of that info is fine to inform us but it isn't about the companies, it is all about the DOT physical and having a waiver that is acceptable to the examiner.

 

I'm blind, in a wheelchair, and have prosthetic arms. Can I get a truck driving job? Man, if you're taking insulin, you have to forget driving as a career.

 

Get your health in order first man it's not easy keeping a good diet while on the road. Sometimes you eat what is available not what you want.

 

There is no getting the health in order as a type 1. He has to take insulin. The DOT won't allow him to drive a heavy truck.

 

OP, see if there are any apprenticeship programs available where you live. Big cities have them. You can get into a program to learn to be an electrician, HVAC installer, or boilermaker. Forget trucking.

There are beginning to be devices approaching a resolution fine enough in digital form, something like 128x 60 format instead of say HD 1980x1240 or whatever really nice resolution available today Even 4K. Which makes Blue ray Movies tiny by comprise,

Eventually these devices visually will get sensitive and small enough to be inplanted direct to the brain and use optical nerves in addition to other external sensory wear toresolve to the blind person everything we normal seeing people can see. That would not be the only reange of vision. You can potentially cover everything from Gamma Radiation sources that emit al the way through the spectrum to wavelengths that cannot be seen by human light

In everything bad, there is always something good. When I wear the correct hearing aids, I can detect my spouse who has really like 20/10 hearing if such a thing is possible. She tries to get into a cookie jar, and my computers pick up that noise and also the specific candy between say a choc chip or a sugar sweet wafer by density sounds as it leaves the jar in the middle of the night when I am supposed to be asellep.

It's ok, if it's a thousand cookies she wnats I'll order her up a truck load.

My next hearing aid set promises real time turning to a app on my smart phone. It becomes possible to ignore yadda yadda in class by voie print id and pick up someone with more interestng converstations about somethintg two rooms down.
