Hours of required school training?

Hi! How many hours does the FMCSA require when going to school to get a certificate? I see most schools are 160 hours now, or 4 weeks? I just went to a REALLY crappy school 80 hours $3500 which I never received AND I never had ANY CLASSROOM TIME in hours of service, log book and all that FMCSA training.

 

FMCSA doesn't even require a school. Trucking companies set their own standards on length of school.
Did you get a cdl-A from the school?

 

the government does not require any specific amount of training hours.

 

No my test was Aug 1 I cancelled it..I am not ready

 

What is your goal? Run the roads solo or team or what's your plan?

 

Where is the OP located, Plenty of companies out there who will be happy to give you great training to get your CDL-A, I am currently in school in Tennessee with Titan Transfer and am really happy.

 

im still trying to wrap my small head and big body. Around why you are getting into truckin and not on the cover over GQ. im just saying.

 

I've never had one ounce of "Official" training... I learned to drive on the farm as a kid... Then much later in life I went and studied the book, took a drive test and got my CDL... That was nearly 6 years ago.

 

The school isnt there to teach anybody anything aboot HOS or logs - its sole purpose is to teach you enough to be able to wobble a truck around the block well enough to get your license - thats it.

Yes all the little nuances of trucking are learned on the road... Or a good company may train you on some of them... Once you get that little green book its a very good idea to get very familiar with it... Its like a truckers Bible, and if you know it well it can save your ### when Mr DOT tries to pull a fast one on you!!
