How to bump a Dock... Jack-knifed?

Yes but that's not what he's talking about. In CDL school you have to back into a dock at a 90 but the rig winds up straight. He's talking about actually bumping the dock with the tractor at a 90 to the trailer. That's a WHOLE NUTHER BALL GAME.

 

That's what I'm talking about. Maybe its not called 90 ally dock. But, it was part of the CDL class a test here in Ga anyway.

 

It is an alley dock, but the OP needs the truck tractor to end up at a 90 degree angle after the trailer is in the dock. Not enough room in front of the trailer for the truck to be straight with the trailer.

Sometimes you need to "alley dock" and leave enough room in front for traffic to get by also.

 

I think we are saying the same thing. I had to do that to get my Class A here in Ga. Trailer straight and tractor beside the nose of the trailer. At one time you had to be able to do that to get a Class A.

 

Ok, I wasn't sure because that is kinda extreme.

When you cut your steering wheel, aim the back of your trailer like your going to bump the dock on the blind side. Your trailer wheels will stop rolling but sliding towards on the pavement. If you leave enough room in the front of your cab, you can slightly get under it to line up your trailer to the dock. It'll slide right in line with the hard initial jackknife
