The current group of asylum seekers is not "storming" the border. FFS they are 1000 miles away. It's going to be months before they even get close. In the meantime, many will apply for asylum in Mexico. Many will turn back. Only a small percentage will make it here to even ask for asylum.
This mass movement of asylum seekers has happened in many years before, because traveling in numbers is safer, and avoids the whole "coyote" issue. Some are just using this caravan as a fear mongering technique to scare the bigots.
Until the current administration changed it, there USED to be a process to apply for asylum while they were still in their own country. But the administration took that option away. Now, they have no choice but to "storm the border."
They have reduced the numbers of ppl who CAN move here legally, and want to take away "chain migration" which seems so short-sighted. If I were moving to a foreign country, I would think it would be easier to move to where I had family who might be able to help me find a place to live and a job without trying to rely on services. So, if you were trying to migrate to a country, and it was so difficult to do it that it could take decades, but life wasn't livable in your own country, maybe you'd decide to use the loopholes too. The loophole is that the law says that if you make it across our border, you have a year to apply for asylum.
The money it costs all of us to house immigrants and legal asylum seekers is outrageous. I'd much rather spend a whole lot less and help them, than to spend the hundreds of dollars each per day that we have to spend to house them. These ppl are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves given the chance.

There was no power in the 13 colonies in 1776 either.... but a bunch of people got together, put forth an effort, sacrificed & now we have power. They didn't like what this country was when England had it so they banded together, sacrificed & changed it. My fore-fathers didn't go crying back to England because they didn't have power or because they had better stuff. They put forth the effort to make their own land better. That's why this country & its citizens have nice things... because we sacrificed since the early settlers came over after Christopher Columbus in 1492. This country (land) was much more of a wilderness & primitive than central & south America is now & look what dedication & sacrifice has done for this country.

All this is in history books. You might pick up a few hundred, pass them out & read one to (educate) those 3000 who are left marching this way.

UN treaties state they are to apply in the first country free of conflict . They passed Thru 2 countries to get here.

And go ahead and call me racist , but before you do , I will tell you I am married to a legal immigrant , who now has her citizenship. She is Filipino. Who many people have you helped legally to immigrant here ? What have you done to help those you feel so sorry for ?

Mexico has plenty of conflict with cartels in charge of a huge portion of the country. It’s not a safe place to put down roots.
