GPS for oversized/ Overweight Loads

There was some talk a while back looking for a gps that one can easily follow their permitted route from the state. Recently i bought a new garmin dezl 780 LMTS and it has a feature in it to do just that. video linked showcasing it in action.

 

Make sure you follow what it says no matter what.
If it says turn right and that is the Pentagon front lawn, who cares turn right...

 

Oversize load routing from a gps? That doesn't matter to be honest states normally give u a route to take lol

I'll decide what route to take, going based on the specific routes allowed as set out by the permits pulled to haul oversize/overweight. I would not trust a gps to pick my way for me. I see that as a disaster waiting to happen. I bet the DOT just loves people who use a GPS route, not what they tell them to follow while 14 wide, 16 tall, and grossing around 190,000 lbs.
My visa card only has a $50,000 limit so i personally could not afford to pay the fines lol

I've used just about all of the available GPS for truckers. Garmin is by far my favorite.

For permitted routes,. I just create a point to point custom route that my permits dictate. Much quicker and easier,.. and you wont be cited for being out of route. All GPS have their Flaws, likes and dislike,.. But Garmin has been the most reliable for me.

On permitted routes,.. you still need to check your atlas to make sure your on proper roads, low bridge clearances, width and length restrictions etc.

The route shaper allows you to pick the exact route. You're telling the GPS where to go based on permits.

Sometimes people need to take a second before commenting...

 

You are setting your state provided route in the GPS.
