Well, I got my eld dashlink recently (I am from.Canada). I go to my truck to plug the wires and there is no J1939 (yellow/green) connection 20190409_141518.jpg 20190409_141518.jpg in my truck. Could it he anywhere else other the fuse box area?

    Please help.

Look down by the steering tilt pedal by the drivers door at the bottom of the dash. Should be the 9 pin plug I think.

I've never set foot in a Volvo but I thought most trucks it's on the driver's side below the dash.

    That is the 9-pin connector?

The dude from the company said its better to plug the other cables directly into the fuse box

Yes, the 9 pin plug is there. I ran an eld off it and never had any issues.

I've had to tap into the J1939 network on equipment for aftermarket accessories. While simply plugging into the 9 pin plug is easiest, I have used y-splitters to tap into the J1939 network in more convienient locations. Sometimes better than running wire several feet back up into the cab. Also, you don't lose the functionality of the diagnostic port.

Take out the screws that hold in the fuse and relay panel and lift out the panel.
I'm not 100% sure, it's long ago, but if I remeber correctly you will find J1939 wires there.

Another option if your Volvo still has the round 9-pin (Volvo changed to (purple?) 16-pin OBD coonector at some point, is to use a break-out connector like this:

CBL-CAN-06: Au CAN/J1939/J1708/J1587 SAE Y cable, 9-pin SAE connector to open end pigtail wires Au Group Electronics

You can take the original 9 pin connector out, and plug it into one end of this break out cable, the other side can be installed in place of original J1939 connector.
I like to use them where possible.
