I would like to take the ugly mirrors off my hood and put some cameras on my fenders. Has anyone ever done this and if so do you guys know what cameras would be good to use?

 

you better make sure camera's are a legal thing. before you do it

 

That is my big worrie as well I think maybe it’s just an idea that should be smashed lol

 

What are trying to do here?

 

I like having the mirrors on my hood so I can see cars in my blind spot. I just think they are big and ugly looking so I was going to put a small camera wear the mirror is so I can kind look cool but still have the functionality of being able to see my blind spot. I know I was just thinking

 

Tesla is working with the federal government to do just that on cars... makes the car a tad more aerodynamic I guess... so the idea isn’t all that “out there”... I saw another driver post that his company is putting side cams on the trucks to do that too... ya, more cameras to document driver boo boos... if I can recall which driver and which company it was I’ll drop a note here.

 

Put a couple of large spot mirrors on your doors(mounted on the mirror brackets, above and below on both sides), If you're worried about your 12, install a couple of chrome guidepoles about 6"out, you can even get the ones with lights on them to help you see and be seen, that should cover your bases. I personally like one 8-10" concave to see wide(helps to see you're trailer when backing)and a 6" to look down and close(cover the blind spots).

I've seen them on a new truck I just can't remember where, they mounted on the fender and color matched the hood, about 2" wide and 6" long facing back to the blind spot, they even had aero fins on them, I think it was a Mack or a Frieghtshaker rolloff. Man, it sucks to get old, hard to remember, I know for sure the hood was red, pretty sure it was a new Mack.
