Instant O/O and Load boards

    Sorry. New to forum (industry). What does "pulling freight off the load board" mean?

    "Pulling freight off the load board" means calling shippers or brokers that have posted freight to an internet load board and contracting (pulling) it to it's destination. Internet load boards are available to the paid subscribers for any reasonable website.

    As an FYI. Unless you have your OWN DOT authority or an intrastate authority (or both), u cannot use them. The boards are not made for individuals driving for companies or owner/operators leased to a company (usually cause you are operating under their DOT authority).

    Jason, I believe you are wrong on the load board thing. I pull for a company and I use load boards quite often. You just need your companies MC number and they take care of everything through your dispatch.

    i also pull from outside load boards,i am with landstar,i just call my "favorite"
    "agent" and book it through them...

    My brother is leased onto a company and 80% of the loads he's pulling are from load boards. His wife has gotten good at locating freight for him and he's running more miles than he ever did at higher rates per mile.

    The best way to run is under your own authority, but it can (and is) being done under a lease-on companies authority. He's running under their MC and DOT#, their baseplates, their insurance, and renting a dry van under their national rental account.

    The pluses to this are less capital money from start-up, and the fact that the company allows advances on the outside loads as well, for a small fee (they do have to be approved first). It's nearly the same as them factoring his loads for him when he needs it.

    When he completes a load, he turns in his bills and receipts (trip-pak) to their office, they bill it forward, and then cut him a check as it comes in from the shipper. With this setup there also doesn't need to be an expensive bookkeeping process, as long as you make sure that the trips are getting paid properly, and you're saving for your quarterly tax filings.

    I don't personally know everything about this system yet, but it sounds reasonable and it's working for them. Hope that helps and stay safe out there! -A

    My brother in law runs for a company that only charges him 3% if he needs to take a load from a load board.

    They pay him the same way they would if they found the load except for the percentage is different. And they handle all the paper work.

    I don't think 3% is to bad since they take care of all the red tape.
