    Hey,

So yesterday while pulling out from a tight spot, I cut a big left and my trailer tail hit next volvo's side mirrors( both) and folded them inside.

The driver claims that it is broken when I showed it that they just folded. Also, the side of the hood got a couple minor scratches.

The driver took my info and filed a police report. I am worried that he might take advantage to change the mirror when it is fine. In this case, how can I protect myself? I dont want to be paying a lot of money. He has Alberta plates, I have ontario. Incident happened in Montreal.

    Thanks

this is when you take out your camera and take all the pics from all angles.

if you did not take any pics, yeah, you might be screwed

now to YOU the mirrors "may be fine", but you could have cracked the plastic.

I have taken pictures and videos using my phone. The plastic is not cracked at all.

It doesn't matter what you think is fine. You hit him ..and anything he deems as damage you are paying for it.

Post the pictures... if it's just a couple of scratches in the paint, you'd pay me a couple hundred bucks for my time in touching it up and I'd let it go. However, any cracks in the mirror housing and you are going to buy a new one.

I had a guy hit the mirror on my old Columbia. We settled for two or three bills I think.

I about #### when I saw just the bracket was $650... $1100 for the whole assembly. I got a junkyard one for a couple hundred bucks and dodged a bullet.

plus the o/p claims there are "minor scratches" on the hood...that driver can claim the hood is cracked now too.....

gotta watch out what you do, can't be in any big hurry to get going.

I had an idiot bust my passenger side mirror at a Flying J . The guy asked me not to report it so we settled for $300 he got the cash from the atm and we parted ways. Then I found out the parts alone were $450. Another lesson learned the hard way.
